i have a sony 720p tv and a denon 1930ci dvd upconverter that has the faradouja dcdi chip, my question is that if i upgrade my player to a blueray or hddvd, since my tv is not 1080p, am i going to notice any improvement in the picture quality and if so is it going to be a huge one ? thank you for ur help.

Yes, you should see improvements; however, the level of improvement depends on the DVD movie as well (some are authored better than others).
Pictures in DVD are about 704x420. Even the best upconverter has to guess what those missing pixels are.

Think of it this way. If you have digital cable or satellite, do SD programs look the same as HD? In this case, your TV does the upconversion and I am sure you can see the difference.

HD movies (in 1080p) are 1920x1080. It is always better to scale down than up!

Hi Ricardo,

You won't be able to see the difference. It wouldn't be worth paying for a Blu Ray or HD-DVD player. In addition the media is expensive.

I am holding off. My new TV has 1080I and I am happy with an up-converted signal.

Consumers will be the losers in the Blu Ray / HD-DVD battle. I am not going to buy a bunch of discs that may be obsolete when the dust settles. Like I said I am perfectly content with my up-converted DVDs.
