I see some of you depicting Jesus as so loving and understanding with compassion for all people and creatures when the Bible clearly states other wise...

"Ye not follow me, then you shall burn in the flames of hell"
That doesn't sound very compassionate or loving that sounds viciously defensive because many people didn't like what he preached.
And the Bible is such a glorious, wholesome, "Good" fairy tale either...its sexist, murderous, and quite terrifying (without scaring the begeezus out of people, then who would convert, right?).

1 Corinthians
14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.
14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
Matthew 5:17
Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets. He hasn't the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament.

Matthew 8:32
And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
------
10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

You could go through the whole 10 commandments and find many christians that pick and choose which ones they follow or not..
also westerners make fun of muslims for strictly following Gods laws by covering of the body (modesty) and not eating pork. when it says also in the bible to not eat pork and for women to cover and dress modestly, but I guess christians would rather follow a dude named St.Paul, other than Jesus when Jesus claimed "I came not to change the laws, but to uphold them"... but they overlook this little statement and eat pork, and covort around having free sex and wearing such revealing clothing, nothing is left up to wonder.. hmm?

I think people should realize that there are two stories in the Bible. The Old Testament is aout the old God Jehoah and his ways. The New Testament is about Jesus and his new ways. The religions have carefully intertwined the two stories into one. That is why they appear to be contradictory. If things do not make sense there is always a logical answer to why that is.By creating 4 different stories about Jesus in Matt, Mark ,Luke and John it gets more confusing which is obviously what was intended. That is like teaching math 4 different ways. There are books coming out now about how those in power did not want to give it up when Jesus arrived so they tacked him onto the Jehovah story making Jesus appear as the son of Jehovah or one with him. So ,yes, people pick and choose what they believe because there are so many options.

If you will look at the creation of the text in it full content you will see that the whole written Word is for the same purpose that the Word came and walked among us, in the person of Jesus of Nazereth. It is for the soul purpose of getting us back into the mindset that we were intended, as humans, to have in the first place. It can start in your own heart just by accepting Christ. When you do you get the package that includes a mind that is capable of understanding ALL things. God does not need us to follow some set of rules for the rules sake. It is so we can discipline ourselves from a mindset that has learned to function without all the pieces. Some people need the hell scared out of them obviously. God only wants the best for His children, just like any Father would. It is also a fact that He knows what He is dealing with with it comes to insanity. Taking an insane person and making them a whole person takes discipline. If the person could just go ahead and loose the mind that they are operating in and let God replace it that would be one thing. Another option would have been to continue from the get go when the first humans had the mind of Christ. We were made in God's Image, spiritually. In His image we were all made to be. In His image there is no sin sickness or even death. He overcame that illusion with the ministry of His Son. If you cannot get the reality of it all, then I would not even try from a point if disadvantage. The best you can achieve is a mind set based on your perspective. That is unless you are willing to loose your perspective and take His. In Him all is well.

It appears from your post that your quarrel is not so much with some Christians as it is with your understanding of the Bible.
Look, a warning is not the same as a threat. If you were driving along a road and suddenly saw someone running toward your car, waving his arms and shouting at you, you might think he was crazy, or at best, angry. If you listened, however, you might find that he was warning you that the bridge ahead had collapsed, and he wanted to keep you from a fatal accident. You wouldn't consider it a threat if he said, "If you keep driving this direction, you are going to crash and drown!" You would understand that this was a warning. This is the point of Christians who speak to unbelievers about the future results if they continue on the same course. How would it be loving to fail to warn people, to just walk on by that oncoming car, knowing the bridge ahead is out and certain death awaits them if they don't stop?
Hell is the default setting. God sending Jesus as our Savior is the solution, and believing in him over-rides the default so we don't *have* to go there. The choice is ours. God doesn't send people to hell; people send themselves there if they choose *not* to do the one thing that can over-ride the default.
Space doesn't allow me to address all of the concerns that you raised in the explanation of your question, but I just wanted to give you this basic part as food for thought. Take care.

>>>Jesus strongly approves of the law and the prophets. He hasn't the slightest objection to the cruelties of the Old Testament. >>>

Not true. There are numerous examples in the Gospels where Jesus presents teachings that supercedes Old Testament teachings.

For instance, Jesus cited the Old Testament teaching that exhorted people to love their friends but hate their enemies. Jesus said that this wasn't good enough -- we should love everybody, He said, even our enemies.

If that isn't rejecting the "cruelties" of the OT, then I don't know what is.

For anyone who has truly studied the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ and has read and studied the Bible, complimented by prayer and Church attendance, they will understand that the Lord Jesus Christ is a merciful loving God. They however will also understand that this mercy will extend beyond the physical death to those who choose him now. For those who reject him, mercy stops at death. You will not meet a merciful loving God in Heaven, if you have not lived a life devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ. You will meet a great judge, who will not show mercy. The choice is yours, either choose mercy now, or judgment later.

Sure do...just like some politicians pick and choose what parts of the Constitution should be followed.

One of the things that always amazed me was that...many of the people who feel that the Bible should be followed very literally...are often the same ones who push for and support public prayers...in schools, at assemblies, etc. Even though the Bible clearly tells us to "pray in secret" and not make a public spectacle of it.

No,"Cristians" do not follow the bible. They pick and chose what they want, don't actually read it and just follow the preacher.Of course it is nearly impossible to follow it 100% but not many try for example the Sabath is on Saterday not sunday etc.As to what you said above, this would mean that todays female preachers are sinning!!!!But the bible is a bunch of storyies made up by govornments for population control anyways.

NO...Christians read and understand the whole Bible...

Christians do not take one verse out of context and build a whole theology...

Christan's understand the applications of the whole Book....

there are some who do not understand, and will in their ignorance, take one verse out of context and use that as a weapon......

Jesus had many disagreements with the Pharisees and the Shadccees, he found much to object to of their keeping of the old laws but ignoring the meaning of the law....

when you think that you know better than God, you are competing with him; I don't have to justify him, judge him, the teachings of God as set forth by his own messenger, Jesus is all that I need; the teachings were simple and straight forward, nothing complicated. He showed us by example ; he was the picture book sent by God to make it easier for us to understand ; he was sent by God out of love for us. It doesn't get any easier than that to know that God created us and the world around us ; he gave us free choice , to choose him or not; he gave us so many gifts already, the sun, moon , stars , planets, all unexplainable to man and every growing as we discover more and more; there is evidence, whether you choose to really open your eyes and heart and see it , is a choice.
