Current society says, what? It's been a long time since the majority of American families were a two parent household raising only biological children whom they have in common. Whether one parent is missing or not has no bearing on whether the unit should or should not be called a family.

My father is not in my life but I still have my mom and siblings. We are just as much of a family as a family with both parents. We love each other just as much. My mom wasn't in my life until I was 6 and I had a family even then.

current society, I don't think, does stipulate that both parents have to be there anymore. Actually, having 2 parents in the home has become the minority.

I know at my daughter's school, there are twenty seven kids in her class and only five of them have both mom and dad in the house. Less than half even see their fathers on a regular basis.

Break ups happen. But it's kind of sad, if you ask me.

Absolutely! My family is composed of me and my son. The vast majority of families nowadays don't fit the old model. I'm not saying that it's necessarily a good thing, but it is reality.

Yes, My father died when I was 13. My mom is a very strong woman. She took care of me and my 2 brothers. We're still a family.

A family doesn't necessarilly have to consist of a mom, dad, and kids..
It could be grandparents and kids or even a group of supportive friends.

Absolutely. Even if both parents weren't there and the children remain, they would be considered a family.

Absolutely! A family is a loving, caring group of people. It can be two or two hundred and it is still family.

Family is what you make it. Our friends are considered "aunts" and "uncles" by our daughters because their blood relatives never had the time of day for them. We are all part of the human family.

a family can be just a aunt, sisters, brothers etc. a family is who is close to you ,cares for you and lets you into their heart. you dont even need to be related to be a family. a family is a bond between people who protects eachother, who needs eachother and wants the best for eachother.
