a mans chest can be just as sexual as a womans....and you cant say its because of hanging flesh because fat men are still allowed to go topless.

so whats the REAL reason?

Men - how would you feel about women having the right to go topless?

Women - if you had this right would you exercise it?

I think it has to do with women being expected to exhibit some form of self-control when they see something they like as opposed to men being expected to lose control in the same situation. It's not acceptable for a women to whistle, hoot and holler when she sees a topless man. And while most people say it's not acceptable for a man to do that, the moment polite people have turned away, they're patting each other on the back and saying, "Good job!"

Since we live in a male-dominated society, women are seen as objects. Objects to be drooled over, to covet, to possess. But not people. Men are seen as people. Since they are seen as people, it's okay for them to go around shirtless.

If I had a right to go around shirtless, yes, I would. It's aggravating to have to get dressed just to take the cat litter out to the trash can while my husband can do the same task wearing only his boxer shorts.

Haha, I was just wondering the same thing a few days ago after my sister got all upset about me going jogging in a sports bra and shorts without a t-shirt. She said she didn't want men looking at me while I ran and I'm only 16, etc. I didn't care. I still play soccer with guys with a sports bra. I don't have a big chest and I'm proud of my stomach. It's like a crop top to me. Back to the question... it's weird sexism, but I like it that way. A woman's chest is more sexual than a man's and to have women going around topless is a inappropriate in my opinion. And I'd rather not be exposed to a woman's chest, whereas I wouldn't mind seeing the toned pecs of a hot guy... :)

In some cities it is allowed. However, mainly, the idea is that women have mammary glands and men don't. Women's breasts are more sexual than a man's chest. A man's chest may be sexually attractive to women, but it's more like how a woman's legs or arms are attractive to a man.

But there's no real reason other than custom or convention. In our society, women are protective of their breasts and typically don't let just any guy look at them. Also in our society, men are attracted to them, and find them arousing, and things that arouse us are typically reserved for when being aroused is appropriate (i.e. not in public).

I'm a guy, and I think it would be fine if women had the right to go topless. Unfortunately, I suspect the women who I would most like to see topless will be the least likely to do so, and vice versa.

It's all a matter of culture. In many tribes in Africa, for example, the women go around topless just as often as men don't wear shirts. But in this culture, it is concidered taboo. I think it is for good reason, too. Think about how rude many men are to women nowadays anyway. What would go on if women ran around topless all the time? It would be chaos.

The fact that some establishments require a shirt admits that people are aware of the power of the visual display. While it feels good to go topless for awhile, I do not enjoy "bouncing around" when I'm dashing here and there. So, as long as there's an option, I guess it will always be tops for me.

Great question1

Some people are too hung up on "skin" men look at my chest no matter how much shirt i am wearing.

I'd go topless if given the chance.

Well...the first thing that comes to mind is that if shirtless men arouse the surrounding women, it's not quite so obvious to see the arousal, as when a shirtless woman arouses the surrounding men. Aroused men are often temporarily disabled.

Imagine the chaos if women went shirtless, willy-nilly, in the streets. :)

Because men are much more turned on by our chests than we are theirs.

If women were allowed to go topless, I wouldn't care. I just wouldn't participate because I like people to look me in the eye when talking to me...

It's alright with me. In Illinois it's legal to breast feed in public openly and I've witnessed it. But that's a different situation. In other countries it's perfectly acceptable on beaches but it seems America has hang up about it. I understand it is legal in certain parts of NYC such as parks.
