One of the spiritual masters I respect most, L. Ron Hubbard, caled this sort of thing, when it happened in his day, "The Wisest men in the World, being overthrown by the Stupidest soldiers in the World."

He taught that "The greatest purpose in this Universe is the creation of an effect." (Scientology Axiom 10.)
Why would people devote their lives to something that has no practical application?. The greatest spiritual system the World has ever seen is the ORIGINAL Gospel that Jesus taught- before his nervous breakdown, after which he deliberately messed up his own system so no one but the "worthy" could use it.

EVERY denomination of Christianity REJECTS the AUTHORITATIVE teachings of Jesus for the TOTALLY UNSUBSTANTIATED THEORIES of "The Apostles" and those who have "interpreted" their doctrines over the ages, THEN THEY COMPLAIN when they suffer the results of NOT PHYSICALLY IMPLEMENTING the commandments of Jesus. Consequences as the inability to control their own minds, and MEST

Buddhism is about peace. Finding a peaceful means to an end, not fighting or bribing or hurting others.

One of the Primary principals of Buddhism is to not by any action or inaction bring about the pain of others.

Most Buddhists, if not all, believe that cause and affect is a fundamental fact of life. It is part of out core teachings. That does not mean that the effect will be felt right away. Subtle changes can be brought about with simple words. It may take years, decades or centuries, but eventually, the effect will be felt. So the Burmese monks do what they can today in hoes the tomorrow, next year or the next century will see better times, but the catalyst, the vehicle of those better times MUST be brought about by peaceful means. Violence and aggression beget violence and aggression. Peace and tranquility beget peace and tranquility.

As for L. Ron Hubbard, I think George Lucas would make a better spiritual master. The Jedi are far more enlightened then those scientologists. (Sorry, that wasn't very peaceful of me...but it had to be said)

I hope this helps.

You seem to have more knowledge of Scientology and Christianity than you do Buddhism. But comparing Buddhism with Scientology would seem to be alot closer than Scientology and Christianity. As a religion and its methods the two have many similarities. The big difference is that often when Scientology says to step in, Buddhism says to withdraw from, as the basic way of handling things.
