You will not encounter mossies generally at this time of the year in most northern areas, especially in urbanized areas, but the countryside is another matter. In some region, malaria remains a serious public health problem year-round. The provinces of Yunnan and Hainan are the areas where malaria has been the most endemic. Malaria resurgence has occurred for 3 consecutive years since 2000. In addition to the southern mountainous area of Hainan and the border area of Yunnan, malaria is also prevalent in several provinces of central China where A. anthropophagus is the principal transmitting vector. The Mekong area is also prone to malaria infestation. So, always do your homework and be on the safe side if you plan to visit the countryside where malaria is endemic. It is a deadly disease but it can be easily and cheaply prevented.

Depending on when you go. If you are going during the summer months, you'll want to bring mosquito repellent. I just got back from a trip from May to August and that was the main thing bad about China is getting bitten to death by mosquitoes. I must have had over thirty bites over the period of the couple of months. You go to sleep and the next day, you have like two more bites. Besides that, there aren't any other major bugs.

Unlikely! The weather has cooled considerably in the North of China; in the South it's still quite warm but as your respondent said this problem only exists in the countryside.

Yeah your'll encounter mossies, but if its malaria your worried about consult your local travel clinic for advice.
It is mostly rural China that is at risk of malaria, your'll also have to use repellents.
