Im in Beijing and using a power converter. also it froze right after i did 2 ollies (learning the basics) and i think it was about to load something.

Same thing happened to me. I bought a PS3 US Edition in the States. Since I moved to China 5 years ago, I brought it along with me. At first I bought a 100WATT Transformer, and it turned off after 5 minutes because the PS3 will automatically turn off before it starts to overheat. After, I bought a 300WATT one and it actually was still on after turning it on for 6 hours. I would recommend you to return your transformer and get a very cool transformer which is 500WATTS with a cooling system online for only 100HKD.
