The church made him up. He is the respertation on pagan gods. They used pagan holidays to help make the transition to their religon easier. Also if you didn't believe like they did they killed you.

I'm a Theistic Satanist, so yes ... I wholeheartedly believe in the "Devil". However, I don't view him as being limited to the Christian point of view. I'm a polytheist, so I believe that Satan is one of many divine beings that have existed as long as the universe has. I believe that because he represents certain things -- indulgence, human progress, intelligence, and knowledge -- he was made a scapegoat by the Abrahamic religions as they try to supress all of those things.

LaVeyan Satanists don't believe that Satan is an actual deity; instead, they believe that self is the highest authority and base their lives around what Satan symbolically represents to them.

Hope this helped, and if you have any further questions, you can email me!

As I understand it, the pagan "stag king" who is sometimes pictured as a man with horns or with a deer-like lower half (hooves, fur, etc) was taken as the more obvious devil figure (which, the "stag king" had nothing to do with evil, he was part of the renewing of the land that happened at Beltane, the spring rites for more crop fertility). Lucifer himself, from the bible, is probably more a metaphor in the Christian Bible then an actual figure or character from myth that existed before. But really, all myths and legends have some sort of Adversary, look at Greek and Roman legends and myths. Christianity is no different than them.

As for Satanists, they don't worship the Devil (not real satanists anyway).. they worship what the devil stands for. Its sort of a "buy now, pay later" existance. They believe in instant gratification, in being selfish and living for oneself only. This is not to say that its not good to live for oneself, but it goes more towards being willing to step on or hurt whoever you have to to get what you want.

The public image of Satanism may not be accurate. The public think of Satanists as gathering in Moonlit fields at night to slip out of robes and engage in ritualistic sex. Or drag screaming children away to be raped and murdered. Both of these fantasies have been debunked by the Media. However many researchers have catalogued a seemingly endless list of High Tech and Blue chip businesses which are covered in Satanic symbolism. The same researchers also catalogue the same companies placing a slowly tightening rope around societies neck consisting of RF-ID chips, CCT Vs, Tracking and Bugging devices, DNA profiling, Mind manipulating T.V. and music. Personally am not sure. The true pass times of International Black Magic has always been Pornography, Drug Trafficking, and Weapons selling. But who knows? maybe that music T.V. channel really is brainwashing American kids into worshipping Lucifer.

Yes. The Devil is a demonized depiction of Pan, the God of shepherds and flocks, of mountain wilds, hunting and rustic music. Paein (in Greek) means to pasture. He has the hindquarters, legs, and horns of a goat, in the same manner as a faun or satyr.

Now, if you look at the Devil in a more metaphorical sense, its the totality of everything bad that happens in the world.

But, most Christians see the Devil as having the same physical characteristics as Pan.

"It is likely that the demonized images of the incubus and even the horns and cloven hooves of Satan, as depicted in much Christian literature and art, were taken from the images of the highly sexual Pan."

Yes Satan is a Christian Creation and was invented to scare people into staying true to the christian faith instead of returning to their Pagan roots when they began to realize their prayers were falling on deaf ears.

This link may help with a satanists views though~not that i believe them.

Satan/Devil (same thing) was one of Gods angels. He's got the power and authority of an angel, but he turned his back on God so God throw him out of the heaven...that's why Satan/Devil want to be better than God, but he know he cant, and he know the bible, and everything, but he's clever, and hes trying to confuse us....If Satanists really believe in the Devil himself...i think so...

Actually - yes... The devil or Satan is taken from other religions.
As an example look at the Celtic God Cernunnos:

Christianity doesn't really have much that is unique to christianity. 99% of Christianity is elements stolen from other philosophies/religions/lifestyles.

Most Satanist are atheist. They believe in self worship and are self indulgent. Every Satanist I have met has been highly intelligent and passionate about life in general. They also tend to completly revere women. As a woman I have to love that. Hehe I haven't met a Satanist yet I didn't utterly adore.

Satanists do NOT worship Satan. Satan is a concept of the abrahamic religions. Read Anton LeVey's Satanic Bible.

the devil was once an angel but he got kicked out of heaven for having evil thoughts and saying that he should have been God. I think Satanists have no idea what they are doing.
