The department of natural resources shows up but does nothing as apparently the hunter is following all of their regulations. Is there anything else we can do to stop the gentleman from disturbing our sleep every morning??? I understand he enjoys hunting but I have a small child and also am a shift worker and enjoy my sleep. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just to clarify......
This is not just a one day thing, this occurs virtually every day of duck hunting season. And although I personally don't hunt; I have nothing against duck hunting. I just don't enjoy waking up to gunfire at 6:30 am.

Is he violating noise ordinances or bylaws in your area? I would dispense with the dept. of natural resources and just call the police. Are there time restrictions when certain amounts of noise can be made such as early in the morning or late at night? Do some research with your municipality or county to find out.

Lastly, have you tried just talking to the man, face to face? You'd be surprised how effective this can actually be. You, the whole attracting more flies with honey thing? Yes, that can work. Sometimes it's more effective to get results when the opposition has to put a face to a name or "complainer" and they come to realize they are dealing with a real live person who has a life and feelings, not just a whiner who is sending out the police to "infringe" on their "rights". That sometimes just gets their back up and the feel like they need to prove something to someone. It's worth a try anyway.

Good luck!

Oh, and I'm assuming you're in Canada, if you're talking about Thanksgiving, since that's today, for the uninformed Americans answering here!! ;)

I recommend yu go to the local duck store and outfit the ducks with small weapons. This gives them a fighting chance against the guy. It also could alleviate your issue if you train a couple of them to be good shots. It would be like an ariel combat picture. Ducks vs Man. Good luck!!

Oh, I'm in the same boat honey! I have a guy who parks in the middle of my road to hunt!! He probably lives in the city and doesn't appreciate that you don't. If you marched down to his house in the subdivision and started shooting it up.. he'd likely throw a fit. Unfortunately.. that's the bad part of not having as many laws and noise ordinances in the country. There's not a lot you can do. Except maybe get rid of the ducks!

I'm sure you do things that bug other people (you are already stewing about Thanksgiving, strange). Put up with it, duck hunting season is only a short time each year. If he is obeying the rules, he has this right. Oh, here's an idea, move (I wish I knew where you live, I love duck hunting, I would like to join this guy in having fun).

one day a year? is that really a problem?

if its that big a deal, you can be a real jerk and try to get the town to ban hunting in that area

you wont make any friends with the hunters doing that though

If you are out in the country, he is on his property(or property he pays to be on), and he is within the laws concerning hunting, there isn't anything you can do.
