artform

I guess it depends whether you are talking about the act of vandalisation or the creation of original artwork, which are in many cases inseparable parts of the same creation.

I wouldn't consider it that different to other art genres. All artforms have their villains and their heroes. I've seen some outstanding examples of graffiti art and I've seen some damned awful examples of more traditional artforms.

The answers (and there are many) to your question are as diverse as the creators themselves. So the answer is, Yes, sometimes it is a brilliant artform.

It depends on where it's done, how its' done, etc.
There's the argument that this is on someone else's property so therefore vandalism; which I guess it is.
I find some graffiti around town very refreshing, as some of it is beautiful and brightens dull walls up. However, what is beautiful to me can be ugly to someone else; so if how do we decide what is art and what is straight out vandalism?
To me, vandalism is people spraying "F*** the police" n things like that on walls; whereas art is Banksy's creations and the likes which you see around every town - there are many talented people.

I know that if something was spray painted on my property, no matter what it was, I would not be happy as the person clearly has no respect for other people or their property.

I think there should be designated places for graffiti artists, walls on abandoned buildings and the likes; however as with everything, they would be abused.

I don't really know if you got a straight answer out of that.
Graffiti, art? To me, in some forms, it is the most beautiful art there is.

Most graffiti looks really horrible and done by children who put themselves in danger on railway lines etc. It's very annoying to see and makes one wonder what sort of intellect these kids have got and could they not spend their time more profitably. On the other hand, occasionally one sees grafitti which looks absolutely stunning, clever and artistic. One then wonders why such talent should be wasted somewhere where it's likely to be cleaned off instead of saved for posterity. Perhaps all the taggers and dross should be rounded up and prosecuted while the work of a few artists should be shared with everyone somewhere more appropriate.

Although it is classed as anti social i must admit i have a soft spot for it . Recently i was in France .Italy and Spain and so some pretty nifty graffiti .As a art form ? like most art there is good and bad and graffiti does have the element of being up to the minute especially on social and political issues .

The proper graffiti art I think looks cool and can often brighten up a dull industrial area. I don't however like Caz n Shaz best friends for eva or Caz loves liam etc, type of graffiti.

Depends where it's done, and how it looks. If it's something offensive on the side of a school, then obviously not,but i have seen some genuinely artistic graffiti in areas that look all the better for it.

i think of it relies upon on the questioning of the guy doing it and what it somewhat is strictly that they are making a reasonably everlasting mark which would be actual seen to all that walk via this "masterpiece". i think of once you're only doing all your gang mark, or yet it somewhat is they call it, in only popular spray-painted letters...this is graffiti and concept-approximately a criminal offense. on the different hand in case you certainly painted a image or a saying that replaced into significant and could be favourite via others...that is an artform.

yes definately... although i understand the destruction of building side of effect. i view art as a medium to express one self or to declare a message. And that what graffitti does. Some of the message are humourous - political or most times a tag name just to promote the graffiti artist craft.

graffiti is a persons way of expressing themselves in the only way the know how. these people can do plenty in their lives along as some body points them in the correct direction i know of a person who has actually turned his hobby into his work he now goes around decorating peoples bedrooms or other rooms in their home with graffiti and he is brilliant at it as i had it done in my room and for the price of the job i didn't expect much but he completely covered all my walls and floor with graffiti and i would of loved to pay him double the agreed price

Graffiti typically means defacing someone else's property, or public property. That's not art, it's crime. Graffiti as a style, accomplished in an appropriate place is art. As soon as you are disrespecting someone else's property, your artist status is a couple of notches below your criminal status!
