Basically in the RAF you can split all the jobs into a four groups: Officer Airman/Airwoman Regiment NC Aircrew (Non-Commissioned Aircrew) Non-Commissioned means you're not a officer, so you'd be going through ranks such as Sergeant etc. And aircrew is a weapons systems operator. A Pilot is an officer. The guys who fit weapons onto planes like missiles and rockets are Weapons Technicians (Airman.) Look at the link below and have a look around.

Aircrew who is NOT a commissioned officer. Enlisted Aircrew - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircrew_Badge#Navy-Marine_Corps-Coast_Guard

Why do Enlisted Aircrew exist ?? Well, we cost less (almost half) since we are paid as enlisted rather than officers. We also do the "dirty" or tedious jobs like load-master, flight-engineer, rescue-swimmer, gunner. We also do the difficult jobs of intelligence, translation, radar-operator, electronics countermeasures and sonar that are skills officers RARELY can grasp.

AN aircraft does NOT have to be "large" to take enlisted Aircrew: I flew as an aircrewman (Systems Operator / Rescue Swimmer) in the SH-60B from 1986-1992.

The P-3C Orion used to carry a crew of 5 officers and 6 enlisted... the officers included TWO sets of pilots.

Aircrew are member of the crew of an aircraft. Non-commissioned means that they are enlisted personnel as opposed to officers.

It means enlisted aircrew members.
It takes more than just pilots to operate large aircraft safely. There are Flight Engineers, Load Masters, Boom Operators, Communications, and several other specialties that fly with and are important to the mission and operation of military aircraft.
Depends on the type aircraft, how many and what specialties are used.
