First of all, sounds like to me that you have acid reflux and not just your common heart burn. Here are some things that you can do to help with the symptoms along with going to the doc to get some meds.

1. Sleep in a 45 degree angle-make sure that you are proped up with plenty of pillows.

2. Make sure that you eat before 6 PM. Don't eat NO later than 6PM.

3. Cut caffine, chocolate, high acid juices and foods from your diet such as coffee, orange juice, tea.

4. Start eating a low fat diet. You wouldn't think that fat would increase your acid but it does.

5. Try some stress reducing activities such as walking, excercising, yoga, meditation and so on. Stress has a major factor dealing with this disease.

6. Follow your doctor's directions.

Your heartburn sounds as if it has become acid reflux disease--a potenially serious condition if left un-checked.
A trip to your doctor--a possible tummy scope or at the very least a prescription for the right kind of ant-acid.

One major trick--do not eat anything 2-3 hours before bedtime.

diet is important to stop Heartburn. Do not eat fried food, fatty foods, caffeine, junk food, acid foods such as oranges or tomatoes, and spicy food. Changing your diet is going to be different but the results will manifest very quickly.

Before bedtime eat a few crackers this will help absorp acid in your stomach and help you rest better.

If this continues you should see your medical doctor.

It burns more at nihght because of your laying down posture. Try sleeping slightly propped up on a couple of pillows. Good Luck

sounds like acid reflux- the acid jumps above the sphincter into the gullet when you lie down. there are lots of meds the dr can give you to reduce the amount of stomach acid you make but ranitadine is one you can buy over the counter (in the UK anyway). good luck.
