The film is on avi format and is 700mb and 1hr 47mins long. After converting to .vob file it is too large for one disk. How do I make it fit as I have not had this problem before.

Try AVS Video converter
It supports virtually all video formats and has built-in DVD, VCD burning engine.
And to reduce the size you should convert your DVDs to DivX or XviD or WMV. After conversion a standard movies will be about 700 mb (CD-R size) instead of 5 or 9 GB (Video DVD sizes).

Try to use AVS Video Converter from AVS Video Tools http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/avs-video-tools.htm

The program is very simple. Read the step by step guide here: http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/guides/avs/video-DVD-to-AVI-DivX-XviD-WMV-MOV-RM-video.htm

You can click on the 'fit on disk' option which will adjust the quality so that the whole movie will fit on the disk at the expense of some quality.

DVD shrink will do it, but if it will not fit on one DVD there must be something not right .

for clarity purposes, it would be best for you to use more than one dvd...or don't convert it...leave it as is...
