I am planning to visit the Statue of Liberty tomorrow. Will be taken the Long Island Railroad to Penn Station. Would like to know what train and stop to get off to take to go to the Ferry for the Statue of Liberty and also the World Trade Center.

From Penn Station, take the downtown #1 train to the last stop, South Ferry. Be sure to get in one of the first five cars. When you get out of the train, you'll see lots of signs that will lead you directly to the ferry.

When you get off the ferry, walk up the promenade that's next to the water (which will be on your left). Walk to the World Financial Building (lots of nice restaurants outside). The World Trade Center site is right outside. While you're in the World Financial Center, go to Custard Beach and try their great ice cream (creme brulee is my favorite - they'll let you try a few flavors if you can't decide).

The E will take you from penn station to Canal St. (China Town. To Get to the WTC you just get back on the E and the next stop is the WTC. To get to the Statue of Liberty take the E back to Canal St. then take the A or C to Broadway/Nassau St. and change to the 5 going south to Bowling Green. Get off there to catch the Staten Island Ferry.

The one fact that is often overlooked is that the Statue of Liberty is in New Jersey as Liberty Island, on which the SOL is located, is on the NJ side of the harbor. As an aside, Ellis Island, is also in New Jersey, not New York. See the source link for other facts

Can I suggest you walk straight down the road to Battery Park? You can see a lot of the early history of New York that way, and if I remember rightly you will go close to where the WTC use to be
