I guess I won't say they are psychic, but animals can sense things. A few months ago there was an article about a cat in a nursing home who could predict the on coming death of a resident. Very neat article, but the nursing home my father was at this past spring (in northern MN) also had a cat that would lay on the bed with residents before they passed. I did not find this out until after dad passed, but that cat was laying with dad most of the morning. This cat will visit the residents, but would never jump on the beds, at least not unless she needed to say goodbye.
In your instance she probley heard you, and hoped you had food for her. But I do beleive cats to have a higher sense of something.

They have really good hearing...he probably heard the familiar sound of the car coming down the street...they can easily recognize engine signature noises after a while if it's associated with something important...like an owner coming home with food...or a garage door opening, or it took a few minutes for him to walk in with the food...so your cat knew he was home already before he ever walked through...

But please believe me when I tell you...

Your cat is not psychic...psychic phenomenom is a "ruse" used by charlatans and con men to fool you...there's no such thing...hate to be the one to tell you this but...Astrology is bs, too...the constellations have shifted a big distance since the original tarot stuff was invented, and the whole concept is preposterous, anyway...

Yes, just like other creatures they can predict somethings that we humans don't. For instance in December 2004 there was a great tsunami and I have heard from animal behavior experts that a lot of wild animals from India went to higher grounds before the catastrophe struck.

Animals get used to routines. For instance, my dog is so used to the routine of taking my son to and picking him up from school that she gets antsy when its the regular time to go if he stays after for any reason.
They are also empathetic. My cats could pick up on my mood so well that it often seemed uncanny when they would all congregate near me when I was feeling blue.
They learn by experience and remember things like specific car noises and particular footsteps that we pay no attention to. Really makes them seem psychic.
