Everytime I pet my dog its ears fold back but it seems happy, I read that if a dog's ears fold back that means its scared, is my dog scared or dose it feel more comfortable when I pet him for his ears to be folded back?

the problem with reading behaviour books, etc, are, that they usually only address the most obvious behaviour issues. As an experienced dog owner/breeder, i say, you need to look at the complete picture. His ears are down. Is his tail between his legs? Is his head lower than his shoulders? Does he hesitate to come when you call him? My doberman is turning 13 this year! her ears have always folded back when i pet her, she doesn't duck her head or shy away when i reach out. She loves a pat and shows it by dropping her ears, snuggling in and drooping her eyes. She NEVER has EVER rejected my calls for a pat. lol. you must look at the entire body language of ur pet to even try to contemplate his mood.

that is just a passive notion and not a position of attack

if you notice a picture of a dog in attack mode the ears (although back) are not postioned in the same way.

Mine does that too in the morning he is very slow and puts his head down and acts like he is sick. As long as I pet him for a few minutes ( his ears back aswell) then he is okay and perky then wants to go out. But until I pet him he doesn't want to go outside.

Every dog has a different way of expressing things with their ears, My dog who recently died used to hold his ears back in the most peculiar way when pleased, but our new pup hangs his down really low and a big bump comes up on the top of his head (he is labrador cross, our other one was doberman cross). When they are scared they usually flatten them to the side of their head, but I guess maybe all dogs are different. If your dog wasn't happy, he would let you know in other ways, such as running off out of your way, or making sure somehow that you knew he wasn't happy with you petting him.
