God wanted to love and be loved, and that is why He created us.
God bless!

Come on, now. If you were an omniscient, omnipotent God, wouldn't you have a bit of an ego, too?
In reply to the first answerer, though, I would like to say that I hope that when people choose to have children, they do so because they feel that they have the neccessary skills. resources, and character traits to give that child everything he/she needs to become a happy, well adjusted member of society, and NOT because they feel the need to create new life solely to have someone else around to validate their own existence and stroke their egos.

He is not self-centered.
If He is self-centered then why would He create us.
He didn't create fans but someone to love.
God loves us. God's love for us is both agape which is unconditional love and eros which is the love between a man and a woman.
God's unconditional love that no matter how much we have sinned against Him, He forgives.
God's eros love towards us is that He wants to have eternal bond with us. That's why He wants us to worship and glorify Him, as a husband wants time and care from his wife. And He is jealous when we turn our attention to others.

Let's see, he punished Adam and Eve for learning... He killed the first born cute babies of Egypt because their parents exercised their free will... He had a temper tantrum and caused 10 plagues... He said not to worship other gods (thus surely proving that other gods exist). If god exists as depicted in the bible, he would be a megolomaniacal emotionally insecure sadist.

When God created Adam and Eve, they had the ability to maintain perfect fellowship with Him. They failed, and lost that fellowship. He did not have to maintain any further fellowship with them, or their sinful descendants. He could have left them all in their sins and punished them for ever. He did not save everyone. But he did give the Jews the law, in order to bring back some of that fellowship in spite of their sin. And he gave his own son as a propitiation for sin, fulfilling that law. He did not have to do any of this.
God does not have any "fans" who can love him through their own ability. We have long since lost any chance of fellowship with him, save for his intervention. HIS intervention, not ours! And yet through his Son, some of us have the capacity to love him back. To me, that is love that shouldn't be there because we don't deserve it. God is not self-centered if he allows some of us to come back to him.

That is not really how it works. God created man in his own image and likeness to share with him the paradise of heaven. We are all god's children. All he asks is we keep his commandments and love one another as God loves us.
Catholics celebrate the Eucharist which is a form of worship. But it is no big deal.

I'd like to add that god also lacks self-esteem. Why else would he need constant reassurance from his follower how great he is through prayer?

It may seem self-centered but He deserves all the glory and honor. He is our creator, He is our savior! Of course He wants all the attention. He has the right because He can do whatever He wants. He is God! and that's the best part of it!

Being self-centered, as among humans, implies a lack of care for others. When God commands love for Himself, He is commanding love for love itself, for God is love. Therefore, God, in calling us to worship Him, calls us to the most expansive inclusion of others in our sphere of care. Loving Him only gives birth to a greater love and fulfillment than could be reached any other way. Therefore, in calling us to this fulfillment, He is being totally unselfish, as demonstrated by His willingness to offer the life of His Son for our reconciliation.

We weren't created to glorify him, we are his glory.
"this is my work and my glory, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"
- Moses 1:39
God made us so we could gain bodies and be like him. He sacrificed for us. God the father is as selfless as they come.
