A wedding planner might be a good idea, but you'll get more good out of her if you know the basic parts of a wedding. Get a book from the library about weddings, and buy one of the Bride's magazines -- you'll have to wade through about 1000 pages of advertisements, but they often have very good, basic information buried between all the BUY-ME-BUY-ME-BUY-ME.
Congratulations, and remember -- it's your wedding! You don't have to follow someone else's rule book!!! But it IS nice to have a general gameplan.

hi. Ok you vcan have whoever you want in your ceremony. There is no cookie cutter way to do this. The bridesmaids are usually your friends or sister or female family that you are close with and hwo will help you the day of the wedding and share in your wedding with you. Your Maid if Honor is your best friend or closest female family member or sister. She is the same as the bridesmaid just like higher up a notch and usually signs your marriage certificate. The groomsmen is like bridesmaids for your soon to be husband, his best friends, brothers etc. The Best Man is his best friend, brother or a family member just like the Maid Of Honor he will sign the certificate and often gives a speech at the reception. The flower girl or girls is just a young girl (anywhere from 2-12) that will walk right before you and sprinkle flowers. The ring bearer is a little boy you know who will carry your rings down for you(dont actually have him carry them give him fake rings and give the rings to the best man). You do not need any of these people and some only have MOH and BM or 15 bridesmaids and groomsmen. You can do it anyway you want. The more bridesmaids you have the more boquets you will have to buy and bouteneirs for the groomsmen so keep that in mind. This is usually just a way for you to honor those who are close to you by making them part of your bridal party. Its a way to invite a few special people to be close to you and its an honor. If you need any more help or have another question you can email me or go to my website at www.confettieventplan.com Good Luck!

A wedding planner can help a lot.
Also, buy wedding magazines and these will help you navigate through the planning.
My favorite site of all time is theknot.com.
Talk to your pastor, if you have one. Talk to your parents or someone else who has been married and planned a wedding.

Go to your local library and hire a book on Wedding Etiquette, I did this 21 years ago when I got married. It was the best thing I did. It answered so many questions and also had pictures of how to arrange tables etc.

FIRST check with your local courthouse as to the legal requirements for marriage where you live.
THEN - keep things simple - means a LOT less stress that way. Talk things over with you fiance as to what sort of celebration that you would both like i.e:- casual/relaxed, formal , party atmosphere.
there are lots of other great suggestions for you from other people.

Start by doing some reading at The Knot. See their site above. Follow their checklists. Check out their budget calculator.
If on a budget, read the budget brides bio:

For wedding party responsibilities, check here:

You can have as many or as few attendants as you wish.

You must be having some eldersly person in your family. Alternatively, contact your elderly neighbourhood and understand the rituals, etc. which in your community are required.
Anyway, I wish you both a long and happy married life.
