In my mind a mind wandering about is free association. lol Keeping it on a leash is disciplined focused thought. If you want to keep it on a leash (the more recommend approach) you should write things down, 'mind mapping' is useful. If you want to let it wander here and there, you can think of one thing and then another and then another. You will never be able to capture the true essence of the association.
To answer your question, in my case I let it wander way too much. I need to be a bit more disciplined. It's like watching TV, you don't think. That's why I like to predict what is going to happen to the story ahead in order to keep my mind moving. Otherwise it becomes stagnant.
Thanks for reminding me. You have shown me the way.

My mind roams free, if I let things sit on a leash is causes me unrest, when my mind roams free it's like everything is alright in my world, unless it's something that demands my full attention, I try to take care of anything that may come about, as quickly as I can, that way it's not on a leash just sitting there nagging at me.

I like to think of myself as a Philosopher; One who attains freedom of thought in a shared pursuit of the truth. But this doesn't mean that I let my mind roam free. I do let it wander quite a bit however, taking notes along the way. If it had a leash, it's broken. I am free once I have harmonized my soul so that I do what is best with no harm done. Because once I have done harm, I am often in bondage to it, until I have realized the damage.

I used to let it roam free, but now I mostly keep it on a leash so I don't get zapped by the Mind Control Gods.

Meditation is the only key to keep it leashed. Otherwise it wanders freely--anywhere and everywhere. Only when its wanderings tire you out should you put it on a leash to rest a bit before roaming once again.

To every thing a season?
I leash my mind to its ground, with an earth-touching gesture, taking the backward step.
Once there again, where the heart always already is, and knowing the place once more for the first time, there's no longer any leash or anyone to hold one.
There the ground is liquid. And there a river in the ocean, a finding itself, an expressing itself. A meandering flow, in purpose, in love, in wonder.

NO LEASHES!!!!! My mind wanders to every corner of the Earth, and I can't begin to tell you about all the wonderful places I have been to on my mind trips! Everywhere!!!!!!
it's sure is cold at the North Pole swimming under an iceberg, but the rivers in Costa Rica make up for it!

There is a leash, but I am constantly chewing on it like a teething puppy. When I break free, I jump and kick my heals up, then someone comes along and snaps on a new leash. Right away I start gnawing away at it because I have tasted freedom.

I try to tame the moneky jumping on the tree and have some calm and focus. So far, it's not working and my mind wanders and roams freely. It will not be kept on a leash and I have resigned myself to simply sit back and enjoy the ride.
