australian troops training lasts for 4.5 months to 6 months, not best eqquipped though but very skilled. better trained than americans.
spec forces training lasts` for 18 months but they have to become a regular before joining so add that up ehich is 22.5 months. thats why they never die in iraq and afghanistan.

Iran's not going to be attacked any time soon.

But assuming they were and the Australian government decided to send troops, expect it to be like a repeat of the Iraq Invasion - pretty much just the special forces going in early, with support staff and the occasional rotation of specific companies from Battalions in the Royal Australian Regiment being sent in afterwards for security.

The light Australian casualties is the cause of more of an unwillingness to see good Diggers getting killed overseas. Some other countries with a bit more of a population and better aircraft and heavy armor are more willing to see anywhere from a few dozen to a few thousand buying the farm.

I wish I could jump on your bandwagon of using time spent in training as a more important factor than the quality of said training, but today isn't your day buddy. I haven't been through Aussie Spec Ops training, but I've worked with them and they were great guys. Bottom line, don't assume that because they are in training longer that they're automatically better at the job than someone who went through a more time-efficient program. They never die in Iraq and Afghanistan? What's your source for this information? Has it occured to you that there are many less Aussie Spec Ops vs. American Spec Ops in the GWOT? The percentage may actually be close to the same, even though the number itself could be lower.

Assuming Iran is attacked, by whom? The Iraqis, the Saudis, the Israelis, the Georgians, the Turks, or New Zealand? Knowing the thoughts of the Aussie General Staff, their objective will be to spend as much time in Sidney, Melbourne, Adelaide, yes Adelaide, as possible.
