I was taught that anything you say about other people that is negative can be considered gossip. To deal with a question like " why are you avoiding x?" if you really feel you don't want to gossip you can still say " I really don't like to say bad things about other people so lets not talk about x" That paints x in a bad light while still not saying anything specifically negative about him. The vagueness will do more damage since the listener will have to imagine what x did that was too horrible to speak of. It can be satisfying to be this righteous.

Some psychologists have found that people generally do not trust people who do NOT engage in gossip. Letting others know something bad about another can be a positive thing---say, if you know a person steals, lies, cheats, etc., it is sometimes good to let others know. To engage in vicious, unfounded gossip is a sin.

It's not gossip because you are telling them why you are avoiding that person. Now if the person you tell that to tells others then they are gossiping. It's only gossip if it's not coming from the source (you).

No, it's not gossip, it's the answer to a question.
However,as a general rule it's best not to get into too many specifics, because that can go down the path ...
Cheers :-)

No, but don't say anything other than that or it turns into gossip. Graciously change the subject and don't give in to pressure for details and you'll be good.

I don't consider that gossip because it's directly related to you. You're also telling someone else because it's affecting you in some way.

if the gossiping is really constant and getting out-of-hand....
avoid them by all means, id say. i hate people who loves gossiping, worst, when it doesnt even involve them.
just tell them in their fcuking face, "I really dont approve of people gossiping and now you chose to gossip about my husband, so I'd appreciate it if you were to stop it NOW."
sh!theads!!!!!! lol

No. You're just standing by your man and don't allow any rumors to creep beneath the blanket of the society. You did the right thing.
