My younger brother is addicted to crack. He doesn't know that I'm aware of this. His ex-girlfriend Nina told me about it. She said that he smokes crack every single day in that old tree house in his best friend's backyard. I think his addiction to crack is also the reason why they broke up. Anyway, I can't allow my brother to go on with his little hobby. I think it's also the reason why he is having some respiratory complications. I'm planning to do an intervention. The thing is, I'm a bit scared. What will happen if I fail?

If a drug intervention fails, there is a huge possibility for things to get worse. If the intervention fails because your brother says no and you let him be, he will still be considered as a drug addict and he will continue to smoke crack. He will think that you've already given up on him and that it's ok to go on with his "little hobby". What to do if an intervention fails? Try again. Try and try and try and try until he realizes that he needs to stop. Lengthen your patience. Who knows? Maybe you're the only one who can save him.

You need to tell your parents this and let them deal with it. That simple kiddo.
And a lot can go wrong during an intervention.
Also, call Alcoholics Annonymous (in the phone book) as ask for the number to AlaNon (which is a support group for families dealing with addictions to drugs and/or alcohol). It is a place that both you and your parents could go to for more information and support.
Good luck!

Your brother is probably going to be very upset with you. Just keep telling yourself that you are doing the right thing in trying to help him and you are not, as they say on the show, "willing to love him TO DEATH"

There are many help lines you can call and try to get as much information about it as you can so that you can try to understand what he is going through.

I had to do an intervention for my mother whom was so ill with alcoholism, sick in the hospital about to die because of liver faultier. I started out calling my local Human Services. They put me in touch with a guy whom me and some family members could talk to and we have to convince him that she is eligible for a custody order. ( meaning that regardless she will be court ordered to go to treatment). I am a only child and she HATED me.. words Can't even express how badly, but she ended up in a home and it took awhile but she came around, I didn't give up on her, although I wanted to many times. I was not going to let her kill herself. And I am happy to say that she is going wonderful now and we are the best of friends. She now goes to AA meetings once a week and I go to meeting that they have just for family members of people with addictions, to help me understand what she is going through and the best way I can help her.

Try some of these sites, I hope this helps.
It is very difficult what you are going through and what you will go through, just remember that it gets worse before it gets better.
.. Don't give up!.. Your brother is lucky to have you.

Good Luck.. e-mail me if you want more information.

You should talk to a local Narcotics Anonymous group and get help in how to do this. If you fail, you alienate him and he keeps doing it, so you're really not worse off than before. However, to get the best chance of success, you should consult people like N/A who know how to do it.
