Well,I don't like to feed foods with corn or wheat, but I used to and it never did my dogs any harm.I looked at the ingredient list, and except for the corn and wheat,it sounds great.I feed Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice, which is about 16.00 for a 20 lb.bag.It has no corn or wheat and my dogs love it.If your dog does well on the food, then by all means, continue to feed it.I know that everyone ( myself included) can't afford to buy Innova,or Canidae or Wellness, especially having multiple dogs and cats as well, vet bills for heartworm, and flea preventatives, etc.,so feeding the best food you can afford is all you can do.

Well, is he allergic to grains? If so, go grain free: Innova EVO, Wellness CORE, Blue Wilderness, Nature's Variety Instinct, Orijen, Fromm Surf & Turf, Now! and Sold Gold Barking At The Moon. I've also heard good things about Natural Balance's Duck and Potato formula or Natura's California Natural diet for dogs with allergies.

You might consider Purina Pro Plan. It's a step up from ANF, in that the first ingredient is something like chicken or lamb instead of a grain like wheat or corn. It's fairly economical. A 37.5 lb bag runs in the $34.00 range at my local pet supply store. If you want to look at ingredient lists, nutritional breakdown, etc., from most popular brands, check out the following site:

I wouldn't call any commercial food 'the best'. Dogs are CARNIVORES - they do not need (and cannot properly digest) grains, vegetables, fruit and cooked meat.**see the first article**

If you really want to feed your dog the BEST food then look into a carnivorous RAW diet. This means raw meat, edible bones and offal. If you google Tom Lonsdale and raw meaty bones you will find numerous articles by this vet who is an advocate of raw feeding for optimum health.

**We feed three cats and a dog (+ 3 turtles) for less than the cost of commercial food.
