There is absolutely no way this happened.
No noncommissioned officer is going to accept that sort of back-talk from a boot. None, nada, zilch. Any drill instructor would deal with it accordingly, and teach the boot in question the proper respect. The lesson would be intense and memorable.
Speaking of which: No, the DI wouldn't respect that. He'd simply figure he was dealing with another snot-nosed ex-civilian who hadn't yet learned how to conduct himself.
If indeed your nephew said this, the result wasn't respect. As a retired senior NCO, I feel safe in saying that either 1) the entire thing was a fabrication, or 2) he said it and is rewriting the end to make himself look better.

The third day of training at Marine Corps bootcamp is during recieving week. During that week the Drill Instructor are much more leaniant about what recruits can get away with. Not that they can get away with much of anything, but during that week recruits can still refer to themselves as " I " and not "this recruit". Also unless things have changed in the last 7 years since I went through bootcamp (which is entirely possible) Drill Instructors during recieving week do not give recruits Incentive Training in the sand pits or the quarter deck. My guess is if he had said that little pharse to the Drill Instructor after receiving week then he would have spent a LONG TIME in the sand pit contemplating the error of speaking to a Drill Instructor like that, all the while doing Push-ups, Situps, Mountain Climbers, Flutter Kicks & Side Stradle Hops. So yes it's entirely possible that your Nephew said that to a Drill Instructor, but as for getting respect on the third day of training... Drill Instructors don't give recruits respect until they become Marines and that doesn't happen until they march accross the Parade Deck for their Graduation.

Is his head still on his shoulders????
If it is then I would call BS on his story. They wouldnt have respected him for it they would have singled him out and made his life a living hell.
this is especially true in the begining stages of bootcamp where their mission is to break you down and get you to lose your will not to gain respect for you.
When I was in bootcamp a guy lost his military bearing and said Yep instead of Sir yes Sir to the Drill instructor right before we were ready to go onto the parade deck for graduation and he took him to the pit and PT'd him for about 15 minutes. That was right before graduation just think what would happen on the 3rd day.
Tell your nephew he just graduated from the hardest bootcamp in the world and he doesnt need to bulk it up with stupid stories
ADDITION: By the way if it happened on the 3rd day He would have still been with the receiving Platoon Drill Instructor and would not have had that Drill Instuctor with his regular Platoon

Drill instructors are not built like that. They are trained as egotistical psychos who break down recruits to make them worthy of being Marines. If they allowed a 'recruit' to disrespect them like that then they would lose their power to intimidate and would not be able to force the recruits through the hell that is boot camp. If your nephew said that he would have probably been hit in the face and then IT'd (IT stands for intensive training) until he fell from exhaustion, then he would have been yelled at for falling so soon. So basically what i am saying is that your nephew is a liar, either he didn't say it (most likely, because he would have been scared to if he was in his right mind) or he said it and the above happened to him.

Sure he did. I also believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the moon is made of green cheese, that Bill Gates is going to share his money with me and me alone, that I'm going to get a share of $50 million dollars from some late dictator's wife, and that used car salesmen are looking out for my best interest.
Ever hear the saying that 'someone's peeing on your combat boots and telling you that it's raining'? Your 'nephew' is doing that to you and you're doing it to everyone that believes a word of your post.
Silly post, silly response. Next.

my uncle tried that stunt once during the 70s when the drill instructor told him to do 25 push ups he rolled his eyes and the next thing he know he is lying on the floor with the Drill instructor above him with his fist on the air

Not a chance in hell. Any back talking whatsoever to a drill instructor is dealt with swiftly and harshly.

In your dreams, an anti-war protesters fantasy wet dream. Care to offer any real proof of your statement thinly disguised as a question?
As there is no way for us to verify it.
Must be sad being you!
