We found a stray kitten who's left hind leg was crushed at the pelvis by... something. He doesn't seem to mind; it just kind of drags behind him. He's very friendly and sweet, and we've already invested a lot of money in him to have him treated, etc... The problem is that when he poops, his leg gets in the way and he drags it all over the place and sometimes he doesn't clean it off his leg. Does anyone have a solution? Would cat diapers work?

I would see if maybe getting the leg removed would help him, Id hate to see it get caught in something by dragging it. Ask your vet. Otherwise I dont know. you could clean him up with baby wipes if you catch it in time.

They may, but I'd look into having the leg removed by a vet. Crushed nerves, bone and tendon cause pain, and even if he's adjusted, they can cause further pain as the kitten grows while the crushed part doesn't. It will stop any early arthritis happening in the area also, and any blood poisoning due to blood not circulating properly.

Cats adjust to an amputation quickly, as do dogs. I would consider that route, after checking to see what the vet says. The fact the leg has a crush injury is the major concern. Sluggish or show blood flow can start blood poisoning which would be highly dangerous once it reaches a certain point.

Wholly, my cat isn't disabled and even she has this problem, with mine, its the long hair on her be-hind, that it gets caught in! Can you make up something that could hold his leg up, or close to his body?? I've had a dog that couldn't use her back legs and to go out for a pee and poop, we had to take a long towel (or piece of sheet) and put it under her back hips and then lift them up, kind of like a being in a wheelbarrow race! and when she found the right spot, we'd let her hind end down a bit, it worked!! maybe you can do something like that! you'd have to know exactly when he'd have to go though!

countless cats do not prefer to proportion a field. at a similar time as they'll circulate to the field because of the fact they are goo, nicely-behaved cats, they'll poop exterior of it. Pooping exterior a field is additionally an illustration of your cat attempting to teach dominance. Cats circulate away feces uncovered interior the wild as a marker, and doing it exterior a field is a sign to different cats (while they arrive around to the field) that they are king of the roost. And, then there are cats who do not prefer to poo or pee interior the comparable field. It additionally could be time for a sparkling field besides as including a field. even nevertheless we people think of we are doing a swell of activity of cleansing a field because of the fact it smells sparkling to us, plastic absorbs odors (cats have plenty extra ideal senses of scent than we do) and after a at a similar time because it is going to become offensive to them. Then, there is clutter. A cat might unlike a sparkling type of clutter, or has gotten bored stiff with it. A clutter exchange is nicely worth a attempt. Then there is the "paws int he field, however the butt hangs exterior" which replaced right into a situation I had until eventually I have been given a miles better field the cat(s) could certainly get interior and turn around in. final, yet not least, is a wellness situation. Doing business enterprise exterior of the field can sometimes advise the cat is making an attempt to show you how to comprehend some thing is faulty. As cats are rather stoic, there may well be no different signs and indicators of misery. attempt one extra field, a sparkling field, a metamorphosis of clutter, and if the cat nonetheless does it, according to threat touch the vet. interior the wintry climate time I certainly have purely room for 2 packing packing containers for 3 (sometimes 4) cats, and my tuxedo generally does the comparable element. In his case, it somewhat is a dominance situation that is going away come Spring and that i will placed yet another field int he 3-season room or the cats do plenty of their business enterprise exterior. until eventually you are able to % the situation, place newspaper below and around the field, so a minimum of it somewhat is undemanding to freshen up.

You can look into a wheelchair for cats which will hold his legs and allow him better movement. Or you could look into amputation which will greatly improve his life. I once had a friend with a three legged cat and if you didn't see it you wouldn't know it.

If your kitty cant use his leg, its best to get it amputated. Animals adapt to this very well, and since he doesnt use that leg anyway, hes not going to miss it. Additionally, a crushed limb as you describe it above generally has damaged nerves and he could easily hurt himself and not feel it.

I would disscuss it with your vet, or even go on line and try to find a web site where other people have disabled pets, (cats) and ask them, they should have any kind of info you need and advice, just google it.
