Get a tape recorder ,tape his foul demeanor, then sue and get him fired. On the other hand if your job pays good and to be out of work would ruin you ,put up with crap until you can`t stand him, then slap him real good.I do not condone violence but sometimes verbal assaults need a reaction.

Does your part time job have vacation and paid sick days? Is there a company policy regarding time off?
Your boss pretty much can decide to terminate you for any reason as long as it isn't discrimination. You can file a claim with the labor board but your boss doesn't have to give you time off. And he's put you on notice that your next request will be denied.
I do find it strange that your boss would be so irritated over you calling in sick. Was this a busy day or were others off making the place very short handed? Or have you taken off a lot of sick days?

This depends on your job structure and if there was an employee handbook describing benefits such as vacation, holiday, and sick pay. Time off CAN be denied by your employer. HOWEVER, if the company has a written sick-time policy, the company is bound to that policy: The California Labor Board WILL side with the employee if there is documentation to verify the policy. (The Board's point-of-view? "You wrote it, you offered it, you're giving it to them!)
Of course, if this were to become an issue with the Labor Board getting involved, you are generally talking about AFTER a termination.

He obviously can't force you to come to work if you call off, but he can fire you for it, even if you have a doctor's note. And he doesn't have to give you time off for other reasons when you want it.
File a complaint for what, getting yelled at? I don't THINK so. He didn't threaten you with bodily harm or anything, just not being allowed to take time off.
If this is the first time you've called off, sounds like he overreacted. If you've called off before, particularly if you've done it several times, you probably won't have your job very much longer.

Yes, he can do that. He doesn't have to give you time off everytime you ask for it. If your employer is an at-will employer, he would be allowed to fire you for no reason, just as you can quit anytime, so if you're concerned that he'd fire you the next time you get sick, you might want to start looking for a new job.

simply put yes, he can 'deny' because afterall he is the 'boss' but you on the otherhand can also file complaint because the 'boss' has now made a verbal threat to you so perhaps, you can get the 'boss' fired

It really depends on each company's policies. In my country if its something real urgent, we jus take no pay leave if boss does not allow normal leave to be taken.
