You would have to become a botanist with a BS You would not earn really big money but with a PHD (eight Years)you would have an income commensurate with that education starting over $100,000 a year

"myco" means fungi, "ologist" is the study of. So a mycologist is someone who studies fungi.
You go to college to become one.
