I was under general anaesthetic for 4 hrs, someone told me it puts strain on your heart and takes 7yrs off your life(!), is this true?

Goodness, NO! This may be true for an older person who's had a heart attack, but I hardly think a general anesthetic takes 7 years off a person's life. Whoever told you this is either ignorant of the facts or joking. Your vital signs are closely monitored the whole time by a team of doctors and nurses. If this had not been a safe procedure for you in the first place, they would have used other methods to block your pain.

I hope not. I am 60 and have been under for hours at a whack each time for major surgeries of one kind or the other. If that is true I am only going to live to be 150. I was hoping for at least 165 years of age.

Now think about how many surgeries there are in a day do you think all those people would take seven years off there lives?
