I was at my aunt's house talking with my cousin and suddenly out of no where I hear their 7-year-old chihuahua crying really loud so I automatically thought a car had run over it or something, but turns out my aunt's husband was kicking it and hitting it because it had ran away and just came home. There was no way I could run to the dog and help it because I thought my aunt's husband would get mad at me. After that I told my parents that I wanted to go home, and on the way home all I did was cry. I know it seems childish, but I really feel bad when an animal gets hurt, not only that but I'm a big dog lover. Do you think I'm stupid for crying?

I did tell my parents what I was crying for, and my parents said they felt bad when they heard the dog cry too. Damn it really felt bad hearing it cry, I felt like it was trying to say stop, but obviously there was nothing the dog could do. After that my mom called my aunt and told her to tell my uncle to stop or he could even go to jail, although I highly doubt that he'll stop. =[

No, you are absolutely not stupid for crying, I would have been right there with you! I think this man should run away from home and not find his way back! A little dog like that was probably injured from those kicks and no wonder he /she runs away from home..Did your Aunt do or say anything or is she afraid of the animal abuser , it makes me wonder how he treats your Aunt. It is a true statement that people that abuse animals are very likely to be cruel to people as well, although I am sure someone has told you all this by now...If I were you and there was someway you could report him to the Cruelty Against Animals, whatever they call it in your city, and there was no WAY he could find out it was you, I would turn him in. I wonder if the neighbors have seen him behave this way. You my Dear are human for crying, which I hate to say is lacking in your Aunts husband...There was nothing you could do or say as it does not sound as if you know this man well, however, the fact that your Aunt did nothing makes me wonder what else goes on in that home...You sound very sweet and caring....I am so sorry you had to witness that kind of behavior, what did your parents think, you should maybe talk with them about this..

Not at all. He should not have been beating the dog in the first place. It is called animal abuse. He is a terrible dog owner and should have the poor animal taken away immediately. If the dog was trained properly and not afraid to be at home with an idiot who beats animals then they wouldn't have problems. Ask him, or your cousin if you don't want to talk to that uncle, if they will be able to take the dog to an obedience class. The problem is mostly the abusive uncle, but if the dog behaves he will have less reason to do things like that it. He is lucky the dog came home at all. If I was that dog I would run away again and live with some friendly neighbor because I know that if I went back home to my "loving" family they would be less than loving and not only would they not be happy that I had found my way home, they would beat me until I cried enough to have someone believe that I had gotten hit by a car.

No! you are not stupid. Your uncle is the stupid one for kicking and hitting the dog. Not only would I worry about the dog being hurt, I would worry about my aunt. Maybe I am not understanding something here - but were your parents there during this? I sure hope that they were not, because if so then by them not saying anything is in a way condoning his behavior. You sound like a very caring person and please do not give that up as that is what being a good person is about.

Of course you're not stupid. I would have cried, too.

Did you tell your parents what happened? If so, I hope they'll do something about it. People like your aunt's husband sometimes have trouble controlling their tempers, but it's up to the grown-ups to do something about that. OK? Do you understand what I mean? That is not a situation for a young person to get in the middle of. You can ask your parents to help, but please don't YOU say anything to your aunt's husband about it.

I'm sure that was very upsetting for you, and I'm very sorry you had to be there when it happened. Please don't feel that it's childish or silly to be upset when an animal gets hurt. Those of us who love animals always feel the same way.

I don't think you're stupid at all....
It's called compassion and I think we need more of it in the world. I understand why you were scared to get involved, but could you possibly say something to your parents or even your Aunt? Maybe they can prevent it from happening again. Otherwise, I would say if you see it happen again call the Humane Society. What happens if one day he is so mad he beats it to death? Yikes!

Just an added note: A few years ago there was a commercial on tv...one of those sappy touching ones where there's nothing being said, just a slow sad song. Anyways, it was showing all these clips of animals that have been beaten and. I remember I could feel a lump in my throat seeing all these poor animals in casts and stuff...and the last one it showed was a little puppy who had been burned and has all these little tuffs of fur....yet he was pouncing around looking so happy. It was so upsetting to me I just started bawling!
Please, don't worry about it hun, all it means if that you have a heart. Never lose that

No you are not stupid dear Heart. You have a tender Heart and compassion. It is not childish to feel sad when you see an animal get treated this way. I would say your uncle needs help! I hope you told your parents the reason you wanted to go home. And also the reason why you were crying! Never be shy or feel stupid for being compassionate. It is a great gift. There should be more people like you.
GBY for being who you are.

Crying is a completely healthy way of expressing emotions. If you didnt express yourself than you might be bottling up your emotions which would cause harm in the future. Never be ashamed of crying. Having said that, it is important to understand that bad things happen in the world every day. Eventually you will learn to feel sad without crying so much. And if you felt that badly about him hitting the dog maybe you shuold have said something. It never hurts to nicely let someone know you do not agree with what they are doing. Hope you feel better!

Its not stupid to cry, it just means that you care. I would have cried too. I hate to see an animla get hurt. I would have tried to stop him cause thats the way I am. I would have taken the dog home with me right then. I love animals and one that small cant really protect its self. It had a good reason to run away. If I was it I would have left and never come back. Poor thing!

You did nothing wrong and letting your feelings out with the safe company of your parents was not only wise but the best thing you could do for your self after watching something so horrific! I'm 40 years old and I would have cried too so childish no way! Keeping it bottled up inside would have been unhealthily. Never be afraid to express your feelings when you are around those who love you and care about your well being.

First of all, you are not stupid to cry over an animal being abused. It just means you have a big heart for animals being mistreated.

Second of all, you should call the nearby animal shelter and report your Uncle. Your uncle is an animal abuser and that dog shouldn't be treated that way for running away.

Third of all, dogs run away when they are in heat or looking for a mate.
