Here is a perfect margarita recipe: - dash of lime juice - 4 parts tequila - 8 parts Finest Call Sweet&Sour mix (or twice the tequila amount) Out it in a shaker and shake well with desired amount of ice. Pour over ice. It will taste very good this way. If you can afford it, put 2oz of Contrau or Grand Marnier into the mix for a lightly sweeter balance if you like that. Otherwise, there are some standard mixes that go good with Tequila: - 2 oz Tequila - 2 oz Gin - 2 oz non flavored Vodka - 2 oz of non flavored Rum you can mix these four with the following to get a good mixed drink: - 4 oz Orange juice - 2 oz Cranberry juice - 2 oz of 7up on top this will make you a good Fuzzy Navel if you use Malibu Mango rum in the above mix instead of non flavored rum or you can do this: - 2oz triple sec or sweet and sour - 4 oz of Coke and you will have a Long Island iced tea

If its a good tequila, Don Julio, 1800, Reserva de la Familia, or Herradura anejo, etc. Do not mix it!!!!! enjoy it,
For a "normal" tequila (Gold, etc) you cant try, Tequila sunrise (ice - tequila - OJ and grenadine at the bottom, just mixing w/the OJ so that gives the sunrise look)
Best tequila mix for a hot afternoon, Tall glass rimmed w/salt, plenty ice and fresca, Good!!!

tequila has great flavor on it's own, so you don't want to cover it up with soda.
It goes great with any citrus juice, so try 1/2 and 1/2 with lime, orange or grapefruit juice. It's it's too strong or too citrusy, add a bit of water and/or a bit of bar syrup, honey or (even better) agave nectar.
If you have none of those, try it on the rocks and sip it, not shoot it. This really only applies if you have a decent tequila. A "decent" one starts by being 100% agave (it will be clearly labeled), and for sipping, look for it to also say "reposado" or "anejo". Those are more heavily aged, and are smoother.

If you're not going to drink its as a shot:
Lick some salt off your hand, take the shot, suck on a wedge of lime.
Then you should definatly try a tequila sunrise:
Tall galss w/ tequila to taste, filled with orange juice, splash of grenadine (or cherry juice).

Salt and Lime are the best in my mind, but if you have Pineapple juice, shoot the tequila then a chaser of pineapple. If you like this when you go to the bar ask for a Pinapple back it washes the burn right out.

Water will do nothing but make make it weaker, and obviously just water it down. I would suggest tea over water. Or if you have any juice try some of that, especially orange juice. You could take a straight shot, but be prepared for the burn!

pour a shot of it into a larger glass over ice, pour yourself a glass of water, if you have salt put it on your hand, now pour the shot into the shot glass, (it should be nice and cool and a little watered down for you), lick the salt, shoot the tequila and chase with the water... lather rinse repeat ;)
