These are the words of Will Gray.

"This is the first time we've raced a complete combo of RCR and DEI equipment, all their plate guys and our plate guys working together," said Gray, as he packed up the No. 1 transporter Sunday in the garage. "I hate to guess ... at the test, a piston in the No. 1 car blew that engine and we thought we had the problem fixed, but it is hard to turn around 16 engines in the matter of weeks."

Gray said the crew didn't pay close enough attention to what happened, but did the best they could with the limited time available.

These are words that could only come from a very underfunded or mismanaged team.

I'm at a loss for words. Great post. They never had this engine problem 1) before Jr announced he was leaving and 2) before Teresa took the original engine builder out and brought in a new one.

....I just think that the best team owners are the ones who have sat behind the wheel at one time or another in their life. Miss T has not. Just because her "Daddy" raced doesn't mean she knows "Jack Schlitz".

The crew chief can only work with what the engine builder gives them. There needs to be some serious restructuring in the DEI organization. Miss T has taken one of the most popular names in Nascar history and turned it into a laughing stock. How? She doesn't have the right people in the right positions.

I'm sure that Tony Eury Sr was just being nice when he told the media that DEI would be fine on their own. I don't see that happening.

Wow, those teams are in serious trouble right now. It's a little surprising that they jumped on the new Chevy engine when they didn't have the old one totally grasped yet. The excuses earlier in the year revolved around going to the unleaded gas. Most of the other teams seem to have dealt with that OK. You knew this particular race would push the engines to the max, with the larger restrictor plate and higher RPMs they ran. They seem to be just trying to get by instead of trying to be competitive and that alone is a recipe for disaster. I hadn't seen this quote yet and it definitely sheds some light on the problems over there. One thing you can't do is put it all on DEI, RCR has to accept some responsibility as well.

Probably both underfunded and mismanaged team. His engines were crap. They blew 3 engines with 4 more still left in the field. The other drivers had to be worried about their engines. I think its a load of crap. They should pull the remaining engines and replace them with ones that won't blow up. He was pretty much saying they didn't have enough time to manufacture the engines properly so whatever happens happens. Wow, what a business man. Pointing the finger at someone else.

Only RCR and DEI/Ginn used the new RO-7 Chevy engine. JGR and Hendrick used the older engine, and had no engine problems. Interesting is the fact that four of the seven DEI and RCR cars had engine problems during the race, and the other three slowed down so they could finish the race without destroying their own engines.
Makes you wonder if JGR didn't make the right choice in going with Toyota next year.

I think this is one of many reasons Jr wanted to have some say in DEI so he could get rid of sorry personnel that come up with we couldn't get to all the engines to change them and make them right.
DEI still had there engines I am sure so if there was a problem with RCR's shelve them and bring theire back out until they could get ther RCR ones safe to use.
We sure miss you Dale Sr.#3

Typical double talk to the press. The reasons for the engine failure will be looked at when the teams return to Charlotte and the engine department can tear them down and look at the failed componants.
These engines are computer tooled and each part is so close to the others that if one fails the others could and would have a simular failure.
But the reasons given at the track is for the press and to confuse the fans.
Any of the componants can break at any time so until the engineers look at the broken engines it is all speculation.

What a load of crap.....Jr. had a car to beat today too. I was excited to see him in the front and leading and ready for him to be a real contender in the end. When Truex blew, I knew it was only a matter of time before Jr. did too.....Next year will be totally different for him.

This only proves that Junior's decision to leave DEI was the right one.......
Best of luck to Jr. next year, at least we all know that you won't have to worry about engines next year......

Kudos, Tina. I couldn't have said it any better. It's becoming so obvious, that the wicked stepmother doesn't want Jr to become a success. Jr racing for a new team can't come soon enough!
