The Bible's accuracy and reliability have been proved and verified over and over again by archaeological finds produced by both believing and no believing scholars and scientists. This included verification for numerous customs, places, names, and events mentioned in the Bible.
One among many examples is the fact that for many years the existence of the Hittites (a powerful people who lived during the time of Abraham) was questioned because no archaeological digs had uncovered anything about them. Critics claimed the Hittites were pure myth. But today the critics are silenced. Abundant archaeological evidence for the existence of the Hittites during the time of Abraham has been uncovered.
Bible scholar Donald J. Wiseman notes, "The geography of Bible lands and visible remains of antiquity were gradually recorded until today more than 23,000 sites within this region and dating to Old Testament times, in their broadest sense, have been located." Nelson Glueck, a specialist in ancient literature, did an exhaustive study and concluded: "It can be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverter a biblical reference." Well-known scholar William F. Albright, following a comprehensive studies, wrote: "Discovery after discovery has established the accuracy of innumerable details, and has brought increased recognition of the value of the Bible as a source of History."
There are more than 24,000 partial and complete manuscript copies of the New Testament. These manuscript copies are very ancient and they are available for inspection NOW. there are also some 86,000 quotations from the early church fathers and several thousand lectionaries (church-service books containing Scripture quotations used in the early centuries of Christianity). In fact, there are enough quotations from the early church fathers that even if we did not have a single copy of the Bible, scholars could still reconstruct all but 11 verses of the entire New Testament from material written within 150 to 200 years from the time of Christ. Bottom line: The New Testament has an overwhelming amount of evidence supporting its reliability.

Well, the bible contains what one could call 'philosophical truths,' or even 'spiritual truths;' that is, morals and lessons that are true for those that believe in them.
The same goes for any religious text. Each contains something that is true for its believers. What seems philosophically true for you may not be true for me.
Of course, there are lots of claims of "historical and scientific evidence" (I noticed one copy-paste job already). The fact is, some events are depicted in the Bible because they were happening at the time. There are historical accuracies in other religious documents, too: the Quran, the Vedas, and the Buddhist Sutras, to name a few. It would be imprudent to ignore major events in that part of the world while writing such an important set of documents.
As for scientific evidence, well... the bible says that bats are birds, and that insects only have four legs, and scientists the world over have found no evidence of a global flood, so draw your own conclusions. Just like all religious texts, the Bible in its various versions has some folklore and allegory mixed in with the facts. I'm not saying it's wrong, just that people should focus more on their faith's teachings of peace, love, tolerance and humility rather than obsessing over details like who begat who, and whether to take any particular creation story literally or not.

No one knows. That's why it's called faith. The people who say it's true because it was written by god are taking that statement of faith wheter they want to admit it or not. The people who say it's because there is historical evidence for it, the same could be said about the Quran. And for the people who say it's because there are so many writing about the bible, if you go and google Darth Vader you get 27 million hits. Surely a man with that much info written about him must be real. Bottom line, it's faith.

The bible is an historical document, nothing more. Some of the events have been proved true, as can be said for the writings of Pliny or many other historians. However, many of the events have yet to be proved and many have been disproved

The Bible is true and there IS in fact proof! If you research further you will find that many of the events in the Bible line up perfectly with other historical events that you might learn about in a history class! If you are having difficulty believing, check out the Archeaological Study Bible. It not only has God word, but backs it up with proof!

Christ died for unconditional or selfless "love". The value of love begins in the home. And through my religion I found that value. Faith is a stair of my new religion, Hope for new religion and Love is the greatest new religion.
Religion is a guide. Give your faith, hope and love to God alone. Then, prove that you found the true religion.
God speaks in love and action.
New Religion speak in love and action.
Look the poors, sinners, prisoners, orphanages, the sick and the dying. Did you find the the True Religion.

We know the Bible is true because the Holy Catholic Church, which holds a divine guarantee of truth, discerned under the guidance of the Holy Spirit which texts would be included in the Bible. This infallible decision by the bishops of the Catholic Church is the only way anyone can know that the Bible is true, and which texts actually are scriptural.

We actually know a large part of it could not possibly be true. The OT has been ripped apart more than any other religious text ever written. Combining this with the knowledge we have of how the NT was chosen to be put together, and you would be foolish to put any creedance in the book.

The babble is true because the babble says it's true. Once someone can get you to believe that, getting you to believe the rest of the stories is simple.

I wish I could type all this but I can't -- there's just too much and I have typed so much tonight my carpal tunnel problem is really hurting!
But I would like to refer you to a couple of good resources from Rose Publishing:
"Why Trust the Bible? and "How We Got the Bible." They are about 3.99 each and contain excellent information with sources listed.
