I'd like to visit some friends in California, but I don't want to wait for my passport. Since we can still cross the border with our ID only, would it be possible to drive to an American City, such as New York, then take a plane from there to Los Angeles?

This isn't the type of thing you can call the airports about :-)

I didn't find any restrictions against a Canadian citizen flying a domestic flight in the US without a passport.

However, to be sure, you could call the airline and put your question something like "I'm in the US; will I need my Canadian passport to fly domestically?"

It's a good idea to bring proof of citizenship with you such as a birth certificate.

No dont want a passport. yet do want goverment issued identity - divers license is powerful. in case you dont have adventure flying check out the airline web site for what's authorized on carryon bags - in uncomplicated terms 3.5 (tiny) shampoo etc.

Yes, you can do exactly that.

I have a coworker that owns a condo in Vegas and drives to Seattle then flies. Last time I looked, her unfinished passport application is still on her desk.
