My two kittens were diagnosed with upper respiratory a little while ago and were prescribed (among other things) 0.5ml of viralys gel every 12 hrs. After doing a little research on it, I haven't seen much positive to say about it... anyone have any experience with it?

One of the kittens was also put on a broad-spectrum antibiotic. Both seem to be much better; I wish that the second kitten could have stayed on the antibiotic but shortly after it was administered she vomited twice and had extremely liquid diarrhea so she was taken off of it.

Their symptoms have pretty much subsided aside from the occasional sneeze.

The vet told me to finish the entire bottle of viralys. Is this generally the recommended practice with this medication?
Any info you can give me is appreciated.

Great. So it is definitely fine for them to be on it for an extended period of time? I am very much hoping that they have not become carriers, but if they come down with it again, I will probably consider keeping them on it. I may look into the powder if it's going to become long term, however my kittens are VERY good about taking the gel via syringe. (It's probably because of the treat they get afterwards... heh)

viralys is fantastic. lysine is normally recommended for cats with herpes virus or suspected herpes virus. it is an immune booster and an anti viral treatment. it does not cure viruses but simply helps the immune system combat viruses. before viralys gel, the only way to administer lysine to a cat was via pill. lysine pills are huge and a lot of people have had a hard time administering them. lysine is also used for other viruses as well, not just herpes. i have used it in my cats with fiv, felv, herpes, toxoplasmosis, and young orphan kittens.

herpes symptoms can range from only sneezing to eye ulcers and chronic respiratory infections. sometimes cats only need to be on lysine for a short period of time. other cats it is recommended that they be on it for life. viralys also comes in a powder form that is fish flavored if you are having a hard time administering the gel.

I got identified with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about five yrs ago, whilst I was still in college and had a stupid one-night stand. I realize lots of young women say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the implications for the rest of my life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores round her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/MX8sO everything got better.

Not only was I able to eliminate all remnants of the herpes simplex virus from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so blessed to write that just last week, in front of everybody in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This program gave me back the opportunity to be happy and experience true love again. Now I hope that I can help others too by sharing this story.

Long nails can be harbingers for bacteria, particularly if they are artificial, but they are good for scratching and starting those little foil wrapped containers which are so hard to get into.

I prefer girls who have got a natural look... sure makeup and other things are good, but when it is used to enhance your natural look.

I think it works wonders on those URVs that cannot be prevented ,as there is no vaccine for them, and also for calicivirus.Lysine is good for many things and is very safe,so I would continue to give it to them.
