No, they have a special instrument that takes the bands off, it has a little gripper edge that gets under the band, while a plastic cusion rests on the tooth and they lift it from the tongue-side out and there is no pain, very easy to do.

No, it doesn't hurt. It does feel like a lot of pulling though. To me, if felt like they were going to pull the tooth out, but trust me that won't happen. They know what they're doing. Good luck!

No; I had the old-fashioned bands on all my teeth, and it didn't hurt in the least when they were removed. There was a bit of pulling and tugging, but no pain.

It hurt my daughter a little, but then she had a very low pain threshold- I cant count how many times she cried in the ortho office.
