Click start, computer, and at the top of the window click System Properties. Then on the left side click System Protection and in the window that opens, you'll be able to select a disk and create your restore point. Good luck.

If you want to put the My computer/Network on your desktop, right click desk top select Personalize.
From the personalization menu select change desktop items from the left hand side tasks menu.
From the next pop up just put a tick in the items you'd like to display on your desktop and select save.
Though if you want to check if system restore is on, or turn it on, click on start, in the start search box just type system. When you see System in the programme list at the top, just click on it. From the next window click on the system protection on the left hand side, under the tasks menu.
The next window will allow you to turn on or off system restore.

just type "system restore" in the start menu search box - it will be top of the list of results - for future use, right click "system restore" and click on "pin to start menu"
If you want the "my computer" icon on the desktop, right click an empty area of the desktop, select personalize; in the window that appears click on "change desktop icons" in the upper left hand corner. Put a tick next to the icons you want, then click apply, ok.

the word on the street is that vista is still screwed up and i have kept xp pro. wouldn't dream of shifting for a couple of years. too many complaints floating around. maybe heavy duty programmers and such can keep it running. i started out with the first microsoft os before windows. its been a long series of adaptation. so much better today. but i never am the first to be the guinia pig. they appear to still be debugging vista. by the way have you hear the horror stories about Nero 8? just managed to clean out a trial version out of my system. really sucks. i am mad. i found this austrialian software for burning dvd video that is the best i have run across. bewared to new stuff unless you are a heavy-duty programmer or it engineer. Kill Nero!
