My opinion is this. i'm no fan of police brutality, nor do i like the idea of police state or whatever conspirators are cooking up nowaday. but hey, lets not throw violent words at each other, espacially you guys who are anti-cops. from what i notice, people are increasingly getting anti-cop, and are saying really nasty stuff about them. not all cops are bad, and can't really blame them for what they do. blame the system. cops are human too. they serve the public. yet unfortunately, humans get currupted, and whenever cops see disturbance, they think what they do is nessesary, like tasering disturbing people. look at UF student for questioning john kerry, and other places. yet however we may think it is bad, we cannot argue back with mindless ranting and such. without cops, this country will go down. look at martin luther king jr. God rest his soul, and his use of love and peace to fight hate. do you think it was a failure? NO! i think we should use the same method against the currupt.

i know it will be hard, but like waves rolling over sand, we might slowly turn the tide and overthrow whatever system or gov. that is responsible. if not the system, then at least do something about the police themselves who are actually discrimminating. if all you do is sit infront of youtube, watching cops brutality and ranting how f-cking bad cops are nowaday, then it's not going to do anything. i don't know if this country's going to get a new constitution and turn the state into police state. (youtube is full of fun conspiracies. look at the one about seattle.) but if we must, we must not fight back with violance. as we all should know, violence creates more violence. i aslo believe against anarchy. we need an honest gov. with real intrerest in citizens. we need people like martin luther king jr and ghandi. we need to stop being so negative with each other and understand each other. we need freedom of speech on both side, so we can help each other. sorry for the preach. peace.

Police brutality must not be tolerated because people will suffer if the policemen can place the administration of justice in their hands thereby relegating the functions of the courts as mere bystanders.

Officers are taught to respond with force in relation to the violence or resistence being received. The force continuum starts at the mere presence of an officer and escalates several levels up to and including deadly force. Most if not nearly all officers react accordingly in these types of encounters, within the boundaries of policy and without violating civil rights. When officers are typically videotaped acting in aggressive and hostile ways there is always circumstances involving the suspect that escalated it first. We are taught to win no matter what and go home at night. The faster you can win in a violent situation the better your survival rate is. Sometimes the force used to gain compliance or control is at a higher level than received but make no mistake, it works. On the other hand and more so we are taught to de-escalate situations so they dont become violent. We all spend much of our time doing that very thing. These things go un-noticed. Police will never be truly remembered for their contributions, but for the very few acting out of policy and making the rest of those born for this life calling look like power hungry mongrels. Shame on those few who have acted "excessively" and out of fear or hate. We have split seconds to think and respond and everyone else has an eternity to praise or criticise those decisions. This job is equally a curse and a blessing. Lastly, you speak of love and peace to fight hate. Realize there is true evil in the world capable of anything, while these are great principles to live by, you do not send the sheep to fight, you send the wolves...

I also agree that all cops are not bad, 99.9 percent are good people who put their lives on the line to protect the public. And sometimes they have to make split second life and death decisions. But some have been know to use excessive force like dragging a woman out of her car during a traffic stop. Shooting of unarmed people when they should have used a non lethal weapon. These type of incidents don't happen often 99.9 percent of the time the police do their jobs.

I was horrified by the taser incident at UF but I am not anti police. As you say the job they do is so necasary. My problem would be with the way a particular policing job is approached - the tasering incident (and there are more on you tube) crushed that students individuality - they could have removed the disturbance by respecting his humanity enough to firmly escort him away - not force submission with thousands of volts of electricity. As long as police approach their very difficult and courageous task respecting the humanity in all (as representitives of the goodness in society) I am all for them. There is no need at all for brutal means.

I completely agree with you opinion. I have an officer in my family and I will never be able to comprehend the idea that I avoid bad situations in the city, and it's his job to walk right in to them and put them to an end. I won't be able to understand how everyday, day after day, he risk his life in everything he does and if he makes a single mistake, he's corrupt. But a lot of people view him as corrupt anyway, simply for being a cop. What a completely stupid and uneducated view of law enforcment but I guess it comes with the job.
What this boils down too is people wanting more protection and less consequences when they commit crimes. If he was to tell me he shot someone dead on the job today, the first thing I would think of is that he was in a life-threatening situation and is he emotionally ok after taking the life of someone? -Not that he is on a legal killing spree.

...my fellowe flower children man...

do you not remember the 1968 protesters in Chicago?

Still, I don't hate cops. I might not love them, but I don't hate them. They are human, they just need to smile more. SOme cops are actually really nice, and stereotyping is bad. After stereotyping security guards at my school, and then finding out that they're actually really nice people, I felt rather bad, so I don't have anything against anyone, unless a person pisses me off, then I'll think what I think of them...Does that make sense man?

It is a shame when it happens, I have most respect for the police and appreciate their help when we need them, but police brutality is wrong and should not be. The reputation of good officers get damaged because of the not so good ones, people and children start to loose trust in our legal service. It always depends on who is being brutalized.

the police... they are like bad dogs.... when you are on the wrong side of the law they will hunt you down but when someone has broken the law (against you) you can use them to your advantege.....but I don't believe in laws.... I believe in principles....... I lived in a corrupt country where the police are known for brutality / not obeying laws etc.... and i was accused by someone ( a bad person) of something I didn;t commit........they were about to throw me in prison indefinitely etc... no questions asked... but then I gave a statement.. I explained what happened..... I asked them what will happen next.... they said we would go and tortue you to get you to admit to the crime but we know you are innocent so its ok..... and that is how law and order in society should be maintained..... through power and respect... and mutually understood principles... not through stupid laws taht everyone abuses to their own advantage....

I honestly don't see any need to shoot and kill someone who is unarmed. Every time it happens you get the same answer. They're investigating it while the cops are on suspension with pay and then they come back and say they followed police protocol. So we got cops on the street bullying people and killing people because they feel invincible and don't obey the law because their departments can't admit wrong doing by one of their officers for fear of being sued.
