Mate, it depends what you mean by pollution, because it comes in a lot of different forms from air quality (where Sydney gets stuffed badly) to water quality and so on. You need to tighten your question up before you get meaningful answers.

@ Robert - Australia has a Capital - Canberra, we also have state capitals, one in each state (no surprise) which is what the questioner is asking about, I think.

Sydney is certainly the worst according to a recent abc article, but I haven't found anywhere that lays out the list in simple order.

By far the worst is Sydney.
For more info go to www.bom.gov.au as they have all manner of info on pollution ratings, etc.

When you think about it they are the ones that are downwind from industry and have the highest use of cars. I.e. Perth would be a lot dirtier if it was downwind of the mines etc in western Oz.
