Every time a new temple is built, that is prophecy through revelation.
The Family: A Proclamation to the World - yes that is prophecy being fulfilled.
In the beginning session of each general conferece, every six months, we as a church-wide membership sustain all of the general authorities as "apostles and prophets", not just the prophet of the church. The President has the authority to receive revelation for the church and every other member has the right to receive revelation in their own offices. I am a Young Women leader, I have the right to receive revelation, if needed, about my class.
LDS.org
Like the prophets of old, prophets today testify of Jesus Christ and teach His gospel. They make known God's will and true character. They speak boldly and clearly, denouncing sin and warning of its consequences. At times, they may be inspired to prophesy of future events for our benefit.
The Prophet does not ever have to "prove" he is a prophet...least of all to people who will just argue that he is not. Remember how people were always trying to get Christ to "prove" he was the Son of God???

I'm not sure if President Hinkley even believes that he is capable of prophecy in the generally accepted definition of the term (as opossed to the definition offered by the Mormon answers here). Just read a portion of his interview in Santa Clara back in March of 1997. The link is:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/1997/04/13/SC36289.DTL
Q: You are the president, prophet, seer and revelator of the Mormon Church?
A: I am so sustained, yes. (Laughter)
Q: Now, how would that compare to the Catholic Church? Do you see yourself as Catholics would see the pope?
A: Oh, I think in that we're both seen as the head officer of the church, yes.
Q: And this belief in contemporary revelation and prophecy? As the prophet, tell us how that works. How do you receive divine revelation? What does it feel like?
A: Let me say first that we have a great body of revelation, the vast majority of which came from the prophet Joseph Smith. We don't need much revelation. We need to pay more attention to the revelation we've already received.
Now, if a problem should arise on which we don't have an answer, we pray about it, we may fast about it, and it comes. Quietly. Usually no voice of any kind, but just a perception in the mind. I liken it to Elijah's experience. When he sought the Lord, there was a great wind, and the Lord was not in the wind. And there was an earthquake, and the Lord was not in the earthquake. And a fire, and the Lord was not in the fire. But in a still, small voice. Now that's the way it works.
From this, I would say that Hinkley's connection with the big guy upstairs is nothing more than what typical Mormons experience in their regular lives. I would say that President Hinkley's testimony of a living prophet is weaker than those who've posted here.

Oregon Flower has 18 collars on prostitution (she's been arrested 18 times) all around the Portland, OR area. Her most recent one was in the small town of Canby, OR where she was caught orally servicing three 95 year old men for petty change. She has also been reported to frequent Lesbian Bars & Night Clubs.
She's had 4 abortions (all roughly around 20 years ago) due to her promiscuous activities. Little does her eldest son know, his mother doesn't even know who his father is because she was gang-banged by a group of 24 navy seals.
Recently, she's seemed to have slipped into a bout of depression and has taken up opium usage. She's now a full blown heroin addict.
I guess Oregon Flower just takes anything written at face value. "Hey if it's published it must be true!"
I just published this so this must be true also.

I heard an implied prophecy in Pres. Hinckley's very last full-length talk in General Conference where he said that the work the Church was doing was truly the beginning of something wonderful (this may be a paraphrase). Why not read some of his talks for yourself and see if you can find prophesies here and there sandwiched between his remarks.

A few years ago Hinkley and his counselors put out the Church's Proclamation on the Family. I consider that prophesy that has come true. If you notice the traditional family has changed a lot. The family has been attacked. There are so many family problems or problems because of no family values.
I feel if more people would have listened to him and had stronger families there would be a lot less problems in the world.

Prophets do more than prophecy, they receive revelation from God for His church.
But, I do know of one instance where he inadvertently made a correct prophecy. It was during the Mark Hoffmann thing when the church was given the White Salamander letter, and he said that it might be a hoax, but he was sure that time would show the truth (words to that effect), and he was right.
Oh, and oregon flower, there WAS no such activities involving Pres. Hinckley. It was all made up by his enemies, especially the man with AIDS. There was never any proof of any of it, except for those few "witnesses" who have been proven to be liars, and enemies of Hinckley, because supposedly he was "responsible" for them getting ex'd. The whole thing was so bad that, for a while, the church thought of sueing, but since the prime instigater of the whole thing was now dead of AIDS, So, you go ahead and believe wat you want, but you should check your facts before making a fool of yourself in front of God and everyone.

You say "so-called" prophet. Why? Oregon Flower, you're spreading nasty lies once again. President Hinckley is a wonderful man and a prophet of God. You can quote bible verses all you want, but it comes down to a witness of the Holy Spirit that he is a prophet. He receives revelation to guide the church. He has received revelation to more than double the temples around the world. As always, you mock what you don't understand.

Yes. Last year he said if members read the Book of Mormon before the end of the year, they would have an increase in faith. I haven't met anyone who did it and did not receive the promised blessing.

I'm not sure whether or not he has, Joe, but one thing I do know for certain is his carnal activities when he was a bit younger.
It happened during the 1980's when I was living in Salt Lake City. A house party was raided up in the "Avenues," and Mr. Hinkley was the host. There were paid women, alcohol and young boys involved. It hit the Salt Lake Tribune like a BOMB one day! Within 2 days, the story disappeared. The Mormon organization either bought off someone or did something to hush the story.
The wretched mess is talked about and exposed in God Makers II, the movie.
The bottom line is that he is no more holy than any other human being. In fact, probably a lot less so. It's really sad that there are so many people who have been so deceived by Mormonism.
God bless you! Great question!
