I don't believe that there is anything they can do to you, except annoy you. My mom just had a bunch burned off (they use a laser), and i'm going next month. I have a couple large ones, almost look like a hair on my eyeball.

Floaters are caused by lumps of the jelly (vitreous) in the back of the eye solidifiying or pulling away from the retina. The big problem that can happen is that when the vitreous pulls away, the retina may accidentally come with it, causing a retinal tear or detachment. What one should watch for with floaters is also flashes of light. A sudden onset of floaters that gets worse over time is definitely something that should be addressed by an ophthalmologist.

Floaters themselves are not harmful, but they are a symptom of another problem, such as high blood pressure. they can be annoying in the sunlight, but they don't blind you.

"Floaters" in your eyes are just dead cells. They're harmless, but if you notcie a sudden increase in the amount of them or experience flashes in your vision, you could have a serious problem.

I have had them myself all my life and am 35. I have had no loss of eyesight from them and most of the time I don't even notice except when reading or looking at a white background. I have been told that they're fine and not to worry.

I've read they are common in people who are highly nearsighted.
