Anyways, I am only 13 years old, and is reallllllly interested in joining the army. The only problem is that I am a permanent resident (came to California when i was 5.) , but my parents won't become a U.S. citizen. If i become a U.S citizen at age 18, can i still enlist in the Army? Thank You all for answering.

i have read some answers to another question, where the guy asked if he could join as an officer if he wasn't a U.S. citizen, but they said he could only join as a E-2.....or something like that.

as a Peermanent Resident, you can enlist for any job that does not require a Security Clearance. if you can become a citizen before you enlist, so much the better, as you will then be eligible for those jobs as well as becoming an Officer if you so desire(and have the 4 year degree and can otherwise be picked up for Commissioning)

You can join the Army, but you cannot get a security clearance until you are a U.S. Citizen. This could prevent you from enlisting under a specific MOS which you may want.

doesn't matter what your parents do! You don't need to be a citizen. You need a green card to join, then you get your citizenship after a little while in (and some paperwork). See ya in about five years. Work hard in school, the results of your ASVAB test make a big difference in what your job options are & that makes a big difference in how your life will be.

the army requires that you be a u.s. citizen before joining. the immigration status of your parents doesn't affect your ability to become a citizen or to join the army. the process to become a citizen, especially if you or your family came here illegally is long and confusing. first you will have to apply, there is an intial 190.00 fee per applicant then the immigration department will send you a letter stating whether or not your application is accepted, if that happens then you wait until they contact you concerning your green card but you will have to return to your country of origin while the process of getting a green card is carried out which can take anywhere from 3 months to 3 years, when you are notified of acceptance and given your green card you will be allowed to return to the u.s. and then continue the citizenship process, which takes years but to join the army you will only need the green card, the rest of the process can continue while you are in the military and in fact it may speed up the citizenship process. go to the u.s immigration and naturalization website and then to the army website for more information. i have a family member who came here to the u.s. illegally and has just recently started the citizenship process, he is 21. so get your family to start the process now if you can. the u.s. is not prosecuting or deporting those that file for citizenship although there was a deadline of july 30th imposed.

You don't need to be a citizen to enlist in the army. In fact it is a good way to earn your citizenship. You can also enlist when your 17, but can't go to boot until your 18.

When you are 18 you can join the US Army without citizenship. After a certain length of time (how long I do not remember) you can get American Citizenship.
