Neither. One cannot exist without the other. Creationist theories contend the creature and egg were "Created" as a biological system. "Evolutionist" theories say that "Natural selection" is responsible for any biological system that lays eggs. Neither theory offers any satisfying evidence for eggs. It is known and understood most life forms are born from an egg or egg-like structure, but some organisms have no such system. Belief is the standard way most explain this, but it is insufficient to believe in what is not known.
