There is no substitute for playing with other musicians. That will make you a better musician more surely than any other way. If you have to force yourself to practice then you aren't really interested that much. Maybe more interested in being admired or whatever else music skill may do, but if you are about the music you naturally will be practicing the amount that is right for you. Don't let the instrument turn into a burden. Practice as much as you feel like and enjoy. We're not all cut out to be Jimi Hendrix.

I once practiced 8 hours a day. I learned a lot but it was maybe a little overkill. The best thing I found was finding a basic scale in all different positions up & down the neck. Once this clicks, everything starts coming together so well that you'll be able to 'practice' in your head when you don't have a guitar around. Keep after it & best of luck!

If you are having a hard time committing to learning it is for one of two reasons
1. you are having a hard time learning: solution get the Hal Lenard blues guitar method Book 1
2.you don't have the passion and desire that is needed either you are born with it or not
learning to play an instrument is very hard it takes at lest 4hrs a day 7 days a weak and 10 years of that to become really good it is hard work and takes a lot of time you half to love the music more than any thing and any one in this world to stick to it the music has to first in your life if it is then you will find the patients to preserver . I hope this has been helpful for you and only you know if you were born with the gift

Yes, almac is right, the inspiration and interest you need, is watching other guitar players play, and then go home and "practice until you can do what they were doing"! Sitting around and playing guitar with other musicians, is like practicing also! Have a purpose of what and how you want to sound like, when you practice! Everytime I got tired or bored of practice, I would go and see other guitar players and hear what they were doing, then I would go home and practice, until I could play just like they were playing, or at least tried!
