I had a much older gentlmen that has served as a Chruch treasurer and a prominate member for probably 35+years. In conversation It came out that He said the bible was a book written by various people and were only stories of peoples perception of the times and should not be taken literally.
I was shocked at this statement. It made me remember other answers here in this forum being similar.
The verse of 2 Timothy 3:16 says," All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Do you believe in God's Living Word by the Holy Spirit through the desciples?
2Peter 1:20+21, " Above all, you must understand that no prophesy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. 21 For prophesy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Absolutely. I share in your shock, but I too have heard similar things from people that I least expected.

Nobody has to believe that Christianity is Gods Word. This is because Christians are people who became believers in God and the Lord Jesus Christ based on what the churches told them they should or have to do to be saved. However, there are other people who are Believers in God and the Lord Jesus Christ based on one premise which is a fact that is not taught to anyone in the Christian culture. These people get mistaken for Christians but they are not Christians. In fact, some of them were believers before they went to the Christian Church and now those ones think they are true Christians but they are not true Christians. They are true believers they just don't know it.

That's the hard part about it being a book...it's easy for it to be able to say ANYTHING, true or not. And if it really is that old, it's impossible to ever really know the true origin.
People only can believe about it what they want to be true, whether for or against. I personally feel it is important for people to listen to their own gut and decide on their own about it.
Edit: It's always a chance that writers included the parts that suggest "the book is right because the book says so" on purpose, trying to make people believe it? A cult could just as well today turn up, make up a book, and write it in a similar fashion as to try to make people believe it.
Not trying to tell you what to believe, but the possibilities are still there given that no one can verify anything outside what the book says...and if the book actually wasn't all true...well you get my drift.

You are correct my friend...remember...
"PREACH THE WORD, in season and out...reprove, rebuke, and exhort with all patience and doctrine; for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine...but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers telling them what they WANT to hear...." (2Tim.4:2)
" Now the Spirit speaks expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, speaking lies in hypocrisy..."(1Tim.4:1)

There was a true Bible and a true Torah but they were changed by the people.
If they had not been changed they would have contained the same belief as the Qur'aan.

I think the older gentleman is correct.
I think the religion tends to stop people from questioning the validity of certain texts.
How is it possible to take "dash the little ones against the stones" as a divine statement?
