He was an expert in his chosen profession of Veterinary Surgeon. He explains in detail in his books, how complicated animal surgery can be, and he never took the attitude that "they were just animals"

He had a great sense of humor. In his books he tells of many humorous events that occurred. One he mentioned was of an elderly woman who called his office by mistake, thinking him to be a medical doctor, she discovered her error when asked if the condition she was reporting for her husband had reached his tail.

He was a very generous person. This was demonstrated by the many stray animals brought to him, that were treated with out compensation.
