travel by sea?

Question

is there a service in australia that letts you travel by sea from/to any major city?
something like a ferry?..not loking for a cruise ship just the equivalant of a bus on the ocean

Only from Melbourne to Tasmania - but No , there is no ferry service to catch a boat to different cities or country's, unless you go on a cargo ship.
