My mom spilled coffee on the computer which got all over the MB and RAM. The HD does still work as I tried it in another machine as a slave. I ordered a new MB, CPU and RAM. I would like to keep the HD as it is. I know windows blue screens trying to boot on a different machine.

How can I use this HD without reformatting? I have the Windows XP disk, any way at all to keep the drive the way it is now so I don't have to reinstall software, etc?

Thanks

Ask here, becasue I'm pretty sure you might have to format the hard drive before putting into another computer

The problem is that the hard drive has registry information from the old motherboard and hardware and it comes to conflict when you startup the system. It can work if the new motherboard is the same brand as the old one.If not you have to buy a hard drive or format an old one just to start the system and attach the old one as a slave and then copy the partition.

Disk transplants only work if the machines are very similar, Otherwise the operating system wakes up, doesn't recognize any devices, and blue screens.
