You can bring liquids but they have to fit in a plastic bag. But the total amount of liquids have to be able to fit in a quart size bag. They actually provide you with the bag if you request it (at least at the dfw airport) No aerosols are allowed so, no hairspray. I have a full list that I found on the web if you want to check it out. Insulin I'm pretty sure is allowed since it's very necessary for your survival. Good luck and have fun where ever you're going!

You're allowed something like 100ml of certain liquids if the containers they're in are also put into a plastic bag( which is usually provided by the airport staff if you ask them)
You can take small spray cans, etc as carry on luggage in this way.

I bought a little plastic "cop set" toy for my 5 year old son. Little badge, a set of little handcuffs, and some other things like a belt. They were all plastic and obviously toys (still in their original plastic seal and with that cheap "made in China" look to them) but, the NZ customs confiscated it from me when I was flying back to Japan. I thought it was ridiculous and so did the customs guy, but he was "just doing his job" LOL

Just to save you some time searching through the TSA website:

You can bring on medically necessary items; however, if the medically necessary items exceed 3 ounces or are not contained in a one-quart, zip-top plastic bag, you MUST declare to one of our Security Officers at the checkpoint for further inspection.

You can bring liquids in three ounces bottles only, in your carry on bag. You can put just about anything, you want in your checked luggage.

As long as they're under 3 ounces you can bring them. Here's a list of what you can and can't bring:

your best bet is just call the air port. I am sure the list is shorter of what you can bring. Just on the safe side just buy everything you will need when you get there.
