I am flying with my 15 month old son for Christmas, and was curious if it is best to get a ticket for him or if it is mandatory or not. It is about a 2 hour flight so it is not too long. Was just wondering from anyone's previous experience. Thanks.

Yah I am able to have him on my lap till he is 2 years old, was just curious about previous experience on how well this has worked with a 15 month old who wants to walk around everywhere.

with most airlines, it's 2 and under are free if they sit on your lap in your seat.

Suggestions- bring a little bit of juice, animal crackers etc. and save for when you start to descend to land- it will help the pressure in his ears. Keep him a little on the thirsty / hungry side during the flight so he will want to eat or drink something as you descend and *pace* him so he doesn't finish it too soon before you're on the ground. You also might want to buy a couple of new small, soft toys and not let him see them until you are on the plane and he starts getting bored.

We did the above when our daughter flew for the first time and that helped tremendously!

On the juice, you can carry on more than 3 oz, but you must declare it at the security checkpoints- see tsa website listed as a source: "Declare larger liquids. Medications, baby formula and food, breast milk, and juice are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint."

Airlines vary, but most seem to require a seat if they are 2 or older. If you want a seat for him, you will have to pay, otherwise he is on your lap (unless you get lucky and there are empty seats).
