It depends heavily on where you live. Some places offer dead animal removal; some don't. If it's available, go for it. If not, it would be good if your neighbor would remove it. I would certainly ask him/her. The animals are NOT dying for no reason. He/she may want the carcass for testing. If you can't get any help from them, get busy. Put on disposable gloves and a disposable nose and mouth mask. Take two plastic grocery bags with you under the house. Disturbing the carcass as little as possible, scoop the bag under and up over the carcass. Tie it quickly and put it in the second bag, Tie it as well. Once you have it outside, put it in a garbage bag and tie it shut. Then put it in another garbage bag and tie it shut and put it in your trunk. Go inside, wash like crazy and use antibacterial soap. Take the sad bag in your trunk immediately to a landfill. Tell the overseer what you have and put it where he/she suggests.
Probably take another shower when you get home.
Then take a serious look at the openings to the crawl space openings around your house. They are for YOU to crawl into, not sick animals. Take necessary steps to ensure that getting into them requires a little smarts and an opposable thumb. Good luck, sweetie!

Dig a deep hole where you can bury the dead cat(at least 3 feet deep). Disinfect the area where you found the cat and deodorize it. Use rubber or surgical gloves when you get the cat and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.
This should end your problem.
P.S. You can also ask your neighbor to do it since the cat belonged to him.

whatever you do you better be careful for your own cats if you have any.
usually cats dying for no reason is a sign of poisoning or distemper or leukemia.
i would get a shovel remove it that way. put vicks vapor rub under your nose to help avoid the odor. put it in a garbage bag and tie tight!! oh, and the lye idea is a good one.
good luck.

Rather than do it by hand, use a rake to reach under. Have a big plastic leaf bag ready and put the remains in that and tie it closed.
We had a skunk die under our shed and this was the easiest way to deal with it.
I sincerely hope that nobody has been poisoning the animals in your area.

You need to call the animal control. One someone needs to find out why animals are just falling over dead and someone needs to clean up under your house so you or your pets don't get sick or die

Bless your heart, love.
Ick. You could call a professional. Or put on your Courage Boots and yank it out. Bluh.
That whole, "cat full of worms," thing just turned my stomach.

Call Animal Control, they will send someone out to dispose of it safely. Don't touch it though because it is covered in nasty bacteria that you DO NOT want to mess with.

Get a bag, flashlight and a bag and go get the cat out from under you house. Or go tell your neighbor you found his cat and make him get it out.
